Raw onion?

Hi there

In Asda, DH wants to buy these to eat raw. Packaging says do not eat raw, does anyone know why? Am I being totally dim?!

More chance of contamination if the onion has been chopped maybe. Cooking would destroy any bacteria that has been introduced during processing
