DH has just had a text from one of his friends telling us this news. So sad. Come Up And See Me was one of the songs of my youth.

RIP Steve

KezzabellaB · 17/03/2024 12:12

Aww no..... RIP Steve... Best Years of Our Lives was a very special song for me at one stage. Another one gone far too soon 😔

TheTecknician · 17/03/2024 12:24

That's too bad. Make Me Smile is one of my favourite records. I knew he'd been ill, ironically because Steve Wright mentioned it on the radio just a day or two before his own passing.

AuntieMarys · 17/03/2024 12:32

Great performer..saw him half a dozen times in recent years.

Samcro · 17/03/2024 12:35

really sad. loved him when i was a teen. the way he could sing and chew at the same time.

ForeveraBluebird · 17/03/2024 12:48

Sad to read this news, so many happy memories listening to his music.

Hatty65 · 17/03/2024 12:52

Very sad. I loved so much of his stuff.

RoseBucket · 17/03/2024 12:53

That’s sad, grew up listening to his music.

ASighMadeOfStone · 17/03/2024 12:54

That's sad.
More great music in the sky. ❤️

PaulGalico1 · 17/03/2024 13:05

Music of my youth - RIP Steve

Abouttimeforanamechange · 17/03/2024 13:10

That's sad. Cockney Rebel are very much part of my memories of summers in the '70s.

I remember him messing up the words of Make Me Smile on TOTP. At least we knew it was a live performance, not mimed!

ProperDeep · 17/03/2024 13:27

I hadn’t thought of him for years - but it’s very sad to hear that he’s gone. Such a strong influence on how we experienced the 70s.

RIP.

notmoredirtywashing · 17/03/2024 13:39

Oh no! I've been a big fan of cockney rebel.

Jonnie walker on R2 will be gutted. They were good friends.

MrsAvocet · 17/03/2024 13:52

Very sad to hear this.I have an older sister and mostly listened to her choice of music so whilst my peers were raving about the Osmonds and the Bay City Rollers the soundtrack to my 70s childhood was by artists like Bowie, T Rex and Cockney Rebel. Some great memories from those days. 😪

DirtyDensDog · 17/03/2024 14:37

Sad news.

Salaaaaaaaah · 17/03/2024 15:53

Come up and see me is a classic. RIP Steve.

Youdontknowmedoyou · 17/03/2024 15:53

This is very sad.

Jellykat · 17/03/2024 16:30

Sad news indeed, i love love love 'Mr Soft' to this day, and he was a big crush of mine in my youth.. he always came across as a lovely guy, with a great sense of humour, and soo good looking too!

Interviews i heard with Johnny Walker last year were a great listen, and you could tell they were real true mates. that said a lot.
(Sadly hes not been mentioned by Johnny today on Radio 2, i guess thats the pre recorded downfall)

RIP Mr Harley ❤

ALongHardWinter · 17/03/2024 16:56

Oh no,so sad to hear this. Come up and see me (make me smile) and Judy Teen were 2 of THE songs of my childhood. RIP Steve.

Hallmark1234 · 17/03/2024 16:59

Oh so sad to read this. Come up and see me was the first music I bought as a teenager, in 1975.

RIP Steve

ginasevern · 17/03/2024 17:13

Another one from my 70's teenage years gone. RIP Steve, you certainly did make us smile.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 17/03/2024 19:36

The video you've posted in your OP has always been one of my favourites - Steve will be missed, RIP.
