Where in Marakech would you stay?

In the medina or outside? Is it possible to do two nights there than three at the beach? It will be a mini holiday to regroup with my friends but it do need an element of relaxation as I’ve been through alot of treatment the past year with probably more to come. What would you recommend?

If you want relaxation I would stay outside the medina. It gets very busy and I felt overwhelmed at times there. Some people love the hustle and bustle but I was glad to go back to the hotel. As a tourist you are constantly being called or approached. It was an experience though and would go back.

Marrakech is beautiful but quite busy. Have you considered Essaouira? Lower scale so not as intense, and it's on the coast

Can you get there easily?

Essaouira is lovely. I’d be tempted to get whichever hotel you end up in to organise car and driver to get there.

fez might be worth considering instead of marrakech, it’s less frantic.

In Marrakech we stayed in the medina in a riad with a beautiful roof terrace, it was really nice to have that to retreat to.

Agree with pp that if you want a short break with beach/relaxation Essaouira is a better option as it has a medina and you do get a bit of culture there too. Marrakech is great but very full on! If you're set on Marrakesh you could look at the big resorts further out and travel in to see the city?

TheWayTheLightFalls · 16/03/2024 12:38

Another one for Essaouria. Marrakech is not “relaxation” territory imo.

Essaouira? Yes there are direct flights from some places or it's a very straightforward taxi journey if about an hour from Marrakech airport, lots of tourists do it so the drivers will be very familiar with the request.

Hotel Jebali in Hiverage is excellent. It has a fantastic spa, loving outdoor dining, and a roof terrace with a pool and drinks. It is a 5-star hotel, on the pricy side. No alcohol is served in this hotel. It is a 15-minute walk to the medina. Similar, but inside the medina is Riad Dyor. Dyor is deep in the medina, away from the hustle and roof terrace, but with no outdoor pool. Serves alcohol

Agree with Essaouira. You still get the souk vibe but it's smaller and you can escape to the beach. If you're set on Marrakesh and can afford it, you could go for one of those luxury hotels outside the city centre and just get a taxi in if you feel like it.

ive stayed here 3 times and love it. Run by a french couple. Only 15 mins walk to the main square and souk. It doesnt have a pool though if thats what you want - i think the more expensive riads do or as others said stay outside the city. Lovely place to explore.

We stayed in the new part of the city, right by the train station, much quieter than the Medina and was a short (10 mins) taxi into the medina.
If I went again I would want to stay in a Riad in the Medina though, to me that’s the real Marrakech experience (or in La Mamounia if I suddenly become very wealthy)

Gosh that’s over a grand a night😀
