Can handwriting be scanned into text and edited? BORING, SORRY!

I have googled, downloaded Adobe and other apps, but just get goobledegoop out.

Is it possible to get editable text from a handwritten document? If so how, please?

It's very regular handwriting but in pencil.

Thanks 🙏

So you’d look for how to turn handwriting into a font and go from there

If you have an Android phone, go into the camera and see if you have Google lens. It's not bad actually. If you don't have it built into your camera I think there's a stand-alone Google lens app.

It does struggle more with handwriting, but if it's neat then it tends to be ok.

Could you get a voice-to-text app and read it aloud into that? Or is it thousands of words?

Thanks, but I've got an iPhone and an iPad.

Thanks but do you know how? Googling that is confusing me further...

You might have tried this but on an iPhone, take a picture of it and go to your camera roll. Click on the picture and in the bottom right there should be a grey circle that has a square with three lines in it. Press that and it will highlight the text. It should then come up with “copy all” but if not you can manually select the text by doing a long press on it. You can then copy and paste that into, e.g. your Notes app

If I understand what you mean ie you want to upload the handwritten text to your computer so you can edit it, maybe scan it and use Adobe to edit it. Or photograph it and use something like photo shop.

I was thinking if you turn it into a font it’s then no longer handwriting and if that’s what you want, you could just copy type it in any existing font you like.

Hopefully adding some pictures to show what I mean

You should be able to get a pretty good result using the method Yojjy describes. This is my handwriting and the resulting type (I wrote it on my iPad, but paper works too, probably better because there are no reflections)
How well it works and how much editing it needs depends on how good the handwriting is, mine had problems with my slightly weird x and lack of space between the last two words

I thought there would probably be an apple version of the google thing - just don't have iphone so wasn't sure where it would be :)

SaveMyArchitrave · 16/03/2024 21:32

Apparently there is, @BertieBotts, but it can't quite do this - or that was my understanding. Thank you.

Thank you especially, @Yojjy and @RustyBear - that was how I did it in the end. A very straight forward method. Now to cancel all my scanner type trial memberships...

My boss has a pen that records what he writes and then puts it into type when he connects it to his laptop. It's not perfect but it's pretty impressive.
