I have a song in my head, it's about a woman who loved a man before he became famous and since left her behind. She was there with him when he was at the bottom, but since he became successful he never looked back. It's a sweet song she's kind of wishing him well, but sad as well.
I thought it might be Gladys knight but not sure of the title.
It is driving me nuts.
Can't find it on google with info l have.
It is an old song, maybe 70s.

Is it " the way we were?"

Flips66 · 15/03/2024 22:42

Is it "Remember me" Diana Ross?

SunshineOnARainyDay3 · 15/03/2024 22:47

I guess its not this but those lyrics remind me of Skater Boi by Avril Lavigne!

BrownOwlknowsbest · 15/03/2024 22:51

Where do you go to my lovely?

LunaNorth · 15/03/2024 22:53

Superstar by The Carpenters?

Clawdy · 15/03/2024 22:54

I thought Superstar too.

PebbleDashAtOne · 15/03/2024 22:55

Frankie by Sister Sledge?

Spyral · 16/03/2024 02:39

Sounds like it could be a Dolly Parton song, but don't know off hand which one it would be if it is her.

JamesGetIn · 16/03/2024 04:22

Sounds like it could be Midnight Train to Georgia.

He didn't become famous however....he left for LA to pursue his dreams, but it "proved too much for the man...."

"He kept dreaming
(Dreaming)
Oh, that someday he'd be a star
(A superstar, but he didn't get far)
But he sure found out the hard way
That dreams don't always come true (dreams don't always come true)
Oh no (uh-uh, no, uh-uh)"

I adore this song.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 16/03/2024 12:25

Come on op! Put us out of our misery!

PuppyMonkey · 16/03/2024 12:33

“Where do you go to my lovely” is not at all like this story? Confused

I thought Midnight Train but it’s sort of the opposite to what OP is describing!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 16/03/2024 14:39

It's doing my head in!

NorthernSoul55 · 16/03/2024 16:14

'If You're Looking For A Way Out' Odessey??

Clawdy · 16/03/2024 16:21

Yes, where is OP?!

I still think it's The Carpenters!

I had the same thought when I read the OP 😂

Bigearringsbigsmile · 16/03/2024 18:18

@RainingCatsandfrogs
Come on!

Joolsin · 16/03/2024 18:21

I immediately thought "Don't you want Me" by The Human League, but I see I've got the sexes mixed up!

RainingCatsandfrogs · 16/03/2024 19:01

RainingCatsandfrogs · 16/03/2024 19:43

I found it, finally.
Randy Crawford, When Your life Was low.
