I've agree to go on a trip and have no idea what the rooming arrangements are

🤣 Life's one big adventure.

Not long after DH died, almost 3 years ago, I resolved never to decline an invitation. MN loves to advise saying no to almost everything, I've found that saying yes, even if you don't really fancy it, brings a world of opportunity and have made or built some lovely friendships, met some great people, done some amazing things and travelled to places that would never have happened otherwise.

Anyway, 6 months ago, an aquaintance put out an open invitation that he was going to run a marathon in a foreign city, who wants to come? So I said "me". Them's the rules!

As a result, I'm going to spend a weekend in a foreign city with 3 people I barely know and I have to run a marathon while I'm there 🤣

The training's gone well, flights are arranged and I've just paid the organiser for the accomodation. He's only asked me for half the cost of a room, so I assume I'm sharing with someone.

Our party is, me, a man my age, his on/off but currently ex gf and a man much younger than any of us. I'm sharing with the ex, right?

What could possibly go wrong?!

Aw, I thought you might be amused by my adventures 🤣

I think it's brilliant that you're being adventurous. Dont you want to ask about the sleeping arrangements from now though?

AKAanothername · 15/03/2024 20:23

Wow, you're a complete inspiration. My DH died last year and I decided to say 'yes' to things but luckily for me, so far, it's been evenings out and holidays. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to do a marathon.

Life is for living, sometimes it's really shit and really tough and you feel like you want to hibernate. You're a complete stranger to me but I'm very proud of you, well done.

Quizine · 15/03/2024 20:25

You should have booked a family room and all stay together for an after marathon partyyyyyy!

Well done and have a great time.

soupfiend · 15/03/2024 20:27

No Im guessing you're sharing with the younger bloke. The ex and girlfriend will likely share

PipsHip · 15/03/2024 20:31

Think it depends if the ex is on or off, OP! 🤣 So long as it's a twin room I'm sure it'll be fine.

CHECK IT'S A TWIN ROOM.

They've been off, but good friends for a while now, although they have shared a room at these kinds of events in the meantime. Both nice people.

It's too late now, I'm scared to ask, I'll find out when I get there 🤣

OP I love this!

I was diagnosed nearly died years back and that was my mantra too. I found myself doing the 3 Peak Challenge having never climbed a mountain in my life.

You always have the best time when you are out of your comfort zone.

I have moved away from it now but perhaps should revisit it.

WallaceinAnderland · 15/03/2024 20:35

It's a hard no from me.

StillProcrastinating · 15/03/2024 20:37

I think saying yes to stuff is brilliant. Hope you have a great run and good sleeping arrangements 🤞

Absolutely. And the silver lining will be that you can write a fantastic book about your travels…..!
