Why has my finger turned purple?!

FreakyPurpleFinger · 14/03/2024 21:00

I went to the gym this evening and when I got out of the shower afterwards I noticed my ring finger was purple from the knuckle to about the start of the nail. It's just across the top of the finger.
Doesn't hurt, isn't swollen, is normal temperature. Didn't notice any discomfort at the gym.
I've removed my rings just in case it swells.

It looks like I've stained my finger with blackberries!

Any ideas what has caused it? It's a bit freaky and isn't fading

Why has my finger turned purple?!

Hi
How old are you
What medical conditions are you aware of
Is it still just the back of the finger as in pic

In the mean time, call 111

Ratfinkstinkypink · 14/03/2024 21:08

Achenbach syndrome?

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 14/03/2024 21:10

did you lift weights with that hand today or griped hard any equipment

I also think achenbach syndrome.

Looks like you may have broken a small capillary in your finger. Did you get a stinging feeling at any point? Weirdly, blood is really irritating to the surrounding tissue so it sets up inflammation if it leaks out. If that's what it is then it will be absorbed in a day or so. I've had this twice on fingers but usually the underside.

Beamur · 14/03/2024 21:12

COVID test?

SheRasBra · 14/03/2024 21:14

Seemingly this is achenbach syndrome! Thanks Mumsnet - I've learned sumfink.

Achenbach syndrome?

Isn't that meant to be pain and swelling too? My finger is not painful or swollen at all

I get this lots when ive been gripping a shopping bag or a bicycle handle etc. Or hoovering. Often! Its Achenbach syndrome, "most prevalent in middle aged women"! A nuisance but nothing serious x

WhoaJayShettybambalam · 14/03/2024 21:21

Are you on any medication?

alexdgr8 · 14/03/2024 21:22

that does look slightly swollen.

paranoidmumdroid1 · 14/03/2024 21:22

Mine's usually in the same finger each time so i ibviously have a weak capillary in there.

It's not painful but it is a bit stiff.

When I had it a few weeks ago it didn’t hurt, just the colour change really!

Because?

pickledandpuzzled · 14/03/2024 21:31

Sometimes you get a sharp sting as it happens. More often, nothing at all. Sometimes it swells just a little. Usually just a bruise.

It’s irritating!

Oh fab, I'll add freaky purple finger to the ever growing list of niggles this mid 40s woman seems to be getting lately! 😭

Good to know it's nothing to worry about though

OP
It's unlikely its anything to worry about but do seek a second opinion
