Kitchen floor tiles - grubby grout - help!

How on earth do people keep their kitchen floor grout clean?

ours is cream tiles and grout. And goes throughout the downstairs other than the sitting room.

with numerous kids and animals, no matter how much I clean the tiles the grout in between makes it looks so grubby. I do have a handheld brush but it literally a day to scrub the grout clean on my hands and knees (and with 2 jobs it doesn’t happen so it’s now black). It looks ok for a month or so and needs doing again.

we can’t afford a new floor - goodness knows I’d love something without a gap. So I’m hoping some marvellous people can tell me about some gadget or machine that will help me!

You need to clean then apply this or similar www.diy.com/departments/hg-wall-and-floor-grout-protector/8711577015930_BQ.prd

I use cheap toothpaste and a small scrubbing brush on the grout of my floor tiles. It cleans it beautifully.

Have you ried white vinegar and soda bicarb? Make a paste, use a toothbrush, then wipe off with clean water.

Thank you all. I fell asleep last night with a sick kid so sorry for the delay in replying. I’m ordering the scrubber today, will use a vinegar paste with it and then protect going forward. Paying someone to re grout is I think out of my budget for now but hopefully I can restore what we have!

Toothpaste.

@Boatromance hi, could you tell me if you did you buy the scrubber and did it work please? The grout between my kitchen tiles is stained and filthy and I have no desire to get on my middle aged hands and knees to scrub a large area. Thanks.

The grout was originally grey, I'm not that much of a slattern. It's mainly bits and stains.

New to mumsnet. I have the same problem. The grey grout is all greasy and in places it is black. Hub ( DH? ) mentioned a scientific thing called lipsol which is supposed to dissolve grease so Im about to try researching it. Tried the white vinegar and bicarb thing but it requires a hands and knees job and Im 68. It took the skin off my hands as I was using a wire dishwashing scrubber. Forgot to wear gloves. Its all a bit depressing but there is a ray of light in the post cleaning grout protector thing. Watching the thread.

Try one of the oxygen action bleach sprays or try hg grout cleaner.
