Preparing for work

I'm interested to know what is your morning routine for work, how long you take to get ready, do you wear make up - if so, is it a slick of lipstick or do you do the whole shebang with foundation, curl your hair etc. Do you wash your hair in the morning or in the evening before bed? What time do you get up? Do you eat breakfast at home?
Currently, I wake up at about 6.45. Shower, make up (skin, eyes, brows) with a couple of cups of tea, hair is normally a quick brush through and into an updo, sometimes I have time to straighten to have it down but I never have the time to curl it. Dressed and I'm ready to leave at 7.50.
Inbetween this, I'm making sure 3dc are up and ready for school and have a quick tidy up from breakfast. On my way into work I stop and grab a coffee and croissant for breakfast and have a 30 minute drive after dropping kids at schools.
I wash my hair every other night in the evening.

What do YOU do for you to be ready for work? I would like more time and I think I need a new routine!

How long does this take you? I'm sure I could condense!

I do lunch boxes for me the day before. DCs have cooked school lunches. I cook dinners and freeze for the days I am in the office. I wash and iron at the weekend and lay out clothes on a rail for each day in orderr for each of us. Dcs have a fresh shirt and trousers for every day. As do I.

I am up at 6. The Dcs are up at 6.30. I shower in the morning. I wake the Dcs and have a hot drink ready for them. I make them a cooked breakfast every day because DS1 is on ADHD medication and it ruins his appetite so I front load for him. DCs shower at night before bed.

We eat at the table. I then load the dishwasher and leave it for DH who is retired to deal with.

7.30 we leave the house. Commute to school and there by 08.15. I arrive at work a few minutes before 9 am.

BuildingAShepherdsHut · 14/03/2024 15:36

I do full makeup- foundation, eyes, cheeks and lips. I don't do anything to my hair- it dries on the commute.

Beezknees · 14/03/2024 16:00

If I'm in the office, wake up at 6am. Shower, usually just have a shake for breakfast and a coffee. Put on some foundation, concealer and eyebrow pencil. Just brush hair and put it in a ponytail. Leave at 7.30 to catch the bus to the city centre (takes 40 minutes to an hour at that time of morning) to start work at 9.

If I'm wfh I get up around 7am, same routine but without the make-up.

Have only one DC who is 16 so is capable of getting himself ready for school.

If I'm with clients/in the office:

Shower night before. Put clothes and makeup in the bathroom ready for morning so I don't wake DH.
Get up.

Bathroom to put moisturiser on.

Make coffee, whilst kettle is boiling fill my water bottle. Prepare a coffee for DH but don't make it.

Upstairs into the bathroom, drink coffee whilst doing makeup (primer, foundation, eye shadow, eye brows, mascara, contour, blusher).

Brush teeth

Dressed

To the home office to pick my laptop bag up which just needs my laptop putting into it.

Back in the house, upstairs to give DH a kiss.
Downstairs bathroom for last wee.

Out the door.

30minutes max.

Oh and I nearly always wear my hair in a pony tail/bun/hair claw. So that's one minute and done.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 14/03/2024 16:02

I have a shower hefore bed and eat breakfadmst at work so tend to use the mornings to get housework and ironing done

Toblerbone · 14/03/2024 16:04

I have a shower or bath in the evening rather than the morning, don't wear make up, don't eat breakfast, and my DC are old enough to sort themselves out (youngest is 14yo), so my morning routine is very quick!

You are lucky! My dd hair is like that! Looks lovely and just able to leave it to dry! My hair is a big frizz that needs a good amount of work!

I'm going to leave my moisturiser in the bathroom rather than in my make up bag that is downstairs and I can leave that to soak in whilst I'm making my tea. Thank you! Your routine sounds fab!

Ten minutes checking news and overnight messages.

Shower. Body lotion. Dressed. Brush hair and teeth. Out the door. 45 minutes. If I'm making breakfast I need an hour.

thevegetablesoup · 14/03/2024 16:15

My alarm goes off at 6 but I don't usually get up until about 20 or 25 past until
It is totally unavoidable......I shower but usually don't wash hair, I tend to wash it on an evening now. I do hair with the revlon big hair thing, make up and get dressed, get coffee, kiss kids and husband and usually leave about 7.10 / 7.15.

effoffwind · 14/03/2024 16:20

I shower , wash dry straighten hair in the evening , make packed lunch

Morning , I do a quick shower , light make up , coffee and out

0610-0700

Stickthatupyourdojo · 14/03/2024 16:44

Office days: alarm at 6am. Shower the night before. Wake up and brush teeth, apply deodorant and moisturise face, let dog out, put on clothes laid out the night before. Cover with dressing down then slap on foundation, powder, eyebrow pencil, mascara and lip balm. Perfume. Brush hair, and either put in a messy bun or run the straighteners over it. Make a massive coffee in a travel cup, grab my water bottle and pick up laptop from the front door. Check the motorway isn't fucked on google maps and leave by 6.30

WFH days: roll out of bed. Draw on eyebrows and brush hair and teeth. Put on clean casual but presentable clothes. Grab a coffee and do not pass go on way to fire up the laptop Blush

Oh my hair does not look lovely I am afraid! It is very fine and thin and if i do too much it breaks. So I let it dry and maybe put a hair clip in it.

I like the look of alice bands but I don't often wear them as I have a headset earphones on most of the day.

I like to get out of bed at the last minute too! How long does your hair take with the Revlon?

Haha, draw on eyebrows 🤣 that made me laugh as I say I need to put my brows on, some people think I must stick them on!

I love the getting changed and then covering with dressing gown, I will adopt this tomorrow morning! Again, moisturising when just got up seems to be the go to!

Do you watch tv, listen, read anything in the morning or do you just up, ready and leave?

I see! We all have our hair struggles then! Mine looks ok the first day after washing it and I usually leave it down, next day is in a pony!

Have some lovely bands but they make my ears hurt... I put up with them when I see my grey coming through!

@Fairysteps11 my natural eyebrows are abysmal haha, I need to do that as a minimum as the camera on my laptop makes me look like I don't have any!

I don't listen to anything in the morning because everyone else is still in bed, but I have quite a long commute so I blast out my special car tunes playlist on the way in, I recommend jump by van halen for Monday mornings. I then listen to a podcast on the drive home.

I know you did not ask me specifically but I spend the first 30 minutes or so downstairs and listen to ClassicFM. I used to listen to the news but it's so depressing right now. My alarm clock is BBC radio 4 though. It goes off during tweet of the day then I hear the headlines then get up.

Breakfast everyone seems to be on their own devices. I usually do a quick check of e-mails (my parents are abroad).

Same! Too many years of over plucking at high school in early 00s!

Will try that song, my new favourite is The Traveller by Black Sheriff!

I don't know what I think will have happened in the few hours I've been asleep but I like to check everything leisurely and then rushing around to get out on time!
