Chatting online but it sometimes feels hard work

Nice man who I know IRL. We move in the same circles.

We seem to have some sort of connection, often together, get along, he's shared quite a bit about his past and personal life, easy to talk to and laugh with. We are also both working towards the same goal ATM so share experiences.

We message I'd say 5/7 days a week and he initiates well over half. Sometimes it's quite chatty and well go back and forth for 20/30 messages. More often he'll message with a question about somehting we discussed and it'a nuce that he remembers/is interested, e.g. "how did xyz go?" . I'll answer with enough detail for there to be more conversation, but I'll just get "that's good" or similar. If I ask about him, I'll get a short answer "it was OK thanks" without giving me anything to work with. Then next day he'll do the same again.

He's very easy to talk to face to face.

He's never made any sort of move , but it is unusual to be texting so frequently, isn't it? But to then not want to chat?

What's it all about?

He's definitely single, but not long out of a long relationship.
