'Fuck it attitude' to everything work-related since hitting 50...

That's it. I can't say this in real life but since hitting 50 I just don't seem to care about work-related 'stuff'.

I do my job and am in a very senior role but I've lost all attachment to it. I'm more shocked than anyone as I used to love work and everything surrounding it. Now, I'm annoyed if I have to work an evening or weekend.

Not sure why I've posted, just a rant as I can't say this out loud in the real world 🙂

If anyone's been here and come through, please let me know how. I can't afford to retire or do fewer hours.

Whoops. I’m 45. I’ve been peri-menopausal for 4 years and I’m not allowed to take HRT though.

I had a job interview today. The interviewer seemed to like me but it would mean working full time. Nah.

Just half a day to go for me then I'm off for 2 glorious weeks of no work and no bullshit. Can't bloody wait.

It's Friday everyone! I hope this is the last working day of the week for us all.

I've had a shitshow of a week where I've had to listen to children fretting about how the organisation will cope when they leave. I think I burst their bubble.

Happy Friday, I took myself off work early today as I simply 'couldn't be arsed and the sun was out so sat in the back garden with a cuppa and refreshing teams on my phone every so often. Grin

Moidershewrote · 23/03/2024 11:22

I have 1 more working day next week and then am off till the 15th April due to all the back days and holiday owed to me from working so much last year! So not doing that again this year though as it was awful and have decided this year I am stopping giving any fucks at all. Only mid 40’s but already in menopause so hopefully I’m allowed to join the group🤗

One of my friends retired yesterday at 54. To say I'm green with envy would be a huge understatement

I would be too. That's my age and I'm working out how much longer I can get away with!

Monday solidarity everyone. I've been awake since 5.30am thinking about my 'to-do' list. I clearly need to work on my fuck it all attitude.

gingercat02 · 25/03/2024 08:05

We have GCSE mocks results to add to the Monday joy today.

IamRoyFuckingKent · 25/03/2024 08:10

Hello everyone, gosh it's Monday-ish innit? Knackered, CBA today but will show willing.

Thanks so much for this thread.

I'm 56 in a basic admin role with barely anything to do, as more tasks get digitised I'm left with less and less. I don't want to ask for more as I'm afraid of the opposite happening and getting swamped and not coping. I've applied for 2 other roles in the same dept that I would find interesting and had the skills and qualifications but not even been offered an interview.

My organisation has recently announced cost savings offering early retirement and voluntary severance so I've applied. I reckon if I save as much as I can between now and a leave date of July, I can afford at least a couple of months off without touching either the lump sum or my main savings and if necessary pick up a Christmas job to tide me over while I decide what I want to do.

My DH is a few years older and not in the best of health so I'd rather we had the time now while we can still get around and do stuff.

If I get knocked back for ER I don't know how I'm going to cope with another 10+ years.

I've started my own thread but posting here in hope I'll get some advice. I'm about to put in my formal request for VR. As above I have valid personal reasons for wanting to go but I need to have a "business case" for why it would benefit the organisation and the impact on other staff etc.

Can anyone help me out with some good corporate speak to support them letting me go without dropping myself in it?

Standingonlego · 11/04/2024 13:56

You need to justify your role falling away, so you will left with no “chair”

common reasons / rationales

  • role being spilt between two or more other people now rather than a single job
  • change in volume of work
  • business restructure

does anyone else do the same job as you or are you unique? Suze of company makes a difference to how redundancy is done

Changenamefortoday · 11/04/2024 14:13

Thanks @Standingonlego

I'm definitely not unique, there are 4 in the team including office/line manager. Education sector, around 3,000 staff currently.

They have said they are looking at integrating departments.

Standingonlego · 12/04/2024 00:17

Likely that a selection process might be triggered in this case …e.g. 4 roles now only 3 and you are all displaced “put at risk”, all then assessed and then 3 retain the jobs and 1 leaves.

My "Fuck it" attitude came when I realised I was being passed by younger people who were graduates. They came in at entry level. We were expected to mentor them and withi n a year or so they were being promoted to the same level or even above. Just because they had this shitty little bit of paper. So I more or less coasted for the year when I was preparing to leave and go to uni. I took several degrees and then went into accademia. I loved it. Then I hit pension age and retired from employed work. I became self employed and went into consultancy and ran an antiues business as a side hustle. I am in my 80s. I still sell antiques and do a bit of private tutoring at postgrad level. I am passionate about working for myself and helping my students to achieve. And I work far harder now than I ever did for any employer.
