Is this something to feel awkward about?

Someone I work with asked if I wanted to go out for a drink with him. I explained that I don't drink and I'm also observing Ramadan but we could go for coffee if he wanted to next month after Ramadan. He said okay. As he was leaving, he said please don't feel awkward that I've asked you out. I said, no and I'm glad he did as I'm new and would like to get to know my colleagues more.

We see each other occasionally and he compliments me sometimes. He's older (15 years older than me) and I had the impression he wanted to make me feel welcomed but thinking about the awkward comment, did he ask me out on a date? should I be feeling awkward?

To add, he did mention us having a coffee together a few days ago. I was under the impression it would be in the workplace cafeteria.

I feel stupid for saying, I'm glad he asked me to go for coffee and a drink. I should've just stayed quiet.😖

Don’t feel stupid or awkward. You can go for a coffee next month or not, your choice. You’re not obligated in any way and I wouldn’t give this any more thought.

Yes he was asking you on a date.

Thanks everyone.

We'll spend 8 hours on Friday together, just the two of us in a venue due to the project we're working on. I really hope things don't get awkward between us.
