My oven/hob is out of action , I don't have an air fryer, but someone has given me a halogen oven.

No idea how to use it ir what's good/easy to cook in it. Any help please? Is it just used like a normal oven? Otherwise just have a microwave. Thanks!

Hi, I’m on my 3rd halogen oven, use it every day for almost anything that I would have cooked in the big oven, which I actually can’t remember when I last used - I also use a combination microwave which seems to be ideal for me.
In no particular order, this is what I’ve found. It’s very similar to any fan convection oven with a grill function, so steaks, bacon, full breakfast, pies, fish, any roasts, are easy - and quicker. the fan is very powerful so make sure that you check that thing’s aren’t flying around, like any foil coverings
You don’t need to preheat so biscuits and baking is also a cinch: scones - 10 mins and you’re done. Veg prep like softening onions, also easy. Plus unlike an air fryer, you can watch how things are doing and you have more room.
Mine comes with a metal extension ring which is handy for lifting the heating element higher and creating more space. It’s also got a hinged lid and digital controls.
Allowing air to circulate is key. I nearly always use a small wire rack on the bottom of the glass container, with a shallow metal flan/sandwich type tin on top, it helps with clean up. No need to heave the glass container out, just wipe round with a soapy cloth or put some water and detergent in for 10 min on high, chuck out and wipe.
Some things, like baked potatoes are no quicker, however, but then I would always start them off in the microwave.

Hope this helps - have fun!

I love my halogen oven and like scotsmum1 use almost daily. It does amazing baked potatoes, wrapped in foil with butter and baked for 1hrs 20 mins at 220c in mine.

You can also roast a chicken it in or grill sausages, bacon, burgers, kebabs.

But do not over fill it and use the little rack that comes with it. to keep the air circulating And be careful the glass can get very hot!
