Can you easily remember your PIN number?

I haven’t used my PIN number in a couple of years! I remember when you used to have to enter it after so many contactless transactions and now your don’t.

A few months ago, I sat and thought, and realised I couldn’t remember what my PIN number was! Panicked a little and then sat there trying to remember. I eventually remembered by thinking about how my hands would go and what fingers I would touch and that reminded me enough to remember.

Now whenever I start to forget, I do my hand movements. I’ve also added it to my list of passwords cos it’s not a number I want to forget!

Can you not just change it to something more memorable rather than use the one they gave you? How about a family member's date of birth, such as sister or father etc?

Itscatsallthewaydown · 12/03/2024 19:51

I have to still enter my PIN every few contactless transactions

I don’t! I haven’t in a good 2 years. I wonder why.

and nah no point changing it. I remember what it is NOW and I have it written somewhere safe. I’m more likely to forget it if I change it now. I have a very bad memory

I've had the same pin for almost 30 years!

Movinghouseatlast · 12/03/2024 19:55

I've had the same PIN number since 1984! It's a really easy one to remember- like 1234 easy.

One day a few years ago I forgot it. I simply could not remember even a single number! A week later It just came back into my head. Very odd.

EndlesslyDistracted · 12/03/2024 19:56

I've had the same one for 40 years so long before contactless, it is drilled into my head.

RoseNy · 12/03/2024 19:56

I have no idea what mine are but can view them on the app

Alwayswonderedwhy · 12/03/2024 19:58

No. One the rare occasion I need it I have to check on my banking app what it is.

EmilyPlay · 12/03/2024 19:58

i have to enter my pin after so many contactless transactions. I thought everyone did?

lifeisawillow3 · 12/03/2024 20:02

I've had the same PIN number since I had my first back account at age 12/13 and I'm 28 now. Never had a problem with remembering it & I use contactless all the time now I never have to insert the card (Apple pay) but if I do bigger transactions then I don't have a problem. I work on checkouts and the amount of people that say 'I don't know my pin cos I use contactless' baffles me 🤣

Retrievemysanity · 12/03/2024 20:02

I have to enter mine every few transactions so yes I do!

SilentBob · 12/03/2024 20:03

I can access mine in my online banking apps.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 12/03/2024 20:03

I also learnt recently that I can view them in my banking app. Assuming I remember how to log into it.

I was fine when I had just one but currently have
current account
joint account
credit card
work debit card

And I cannot remember the first three reliably.

chattyness · 12/03/2024 20:03

I remember mine as I use them for online banking log ins but I have got them written down stored safe in the house just in case. I also keep a small address book in my bag and have written down it as part of a fictious phone number & I know where to find it but nobody else would know it amongst all the real ones .
I don't use the banking app as I don't have an iphone

Cas112 · 12/03/2024 20:03

No

BreakfastAtMimis · 12/03/2024 20:04

Yes, I know the PINs for both my debit card and my credit card.

TheDandyLion · 12/03/2024 20:04

I've no idea what my PIN are because I rarely use the cards. It's stored in my banking apps on my phone but I use Google payfor everything so no need to use the card at all.

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/03/2024 20:06

I have 3 bank cards I use regularly and I get asked for my pins very often. Like every week or so. And not on high value purchases.

MinervatheGreat · 12/03/2024 20:13

I’ve got 4 cards.
I never use contactless.
By association, I manage to recall all their pins, even the one I hardly ever use.

It’s a weird thing but when I took leave from work, often a 2 week period, I regularly would forget my log in password when I retd to my desk!
Memory is so strange.

I rarely use the actual card, Apple Pay is my go to.

Oblomov24 · 12/03/2024 20:18

I never forget. I have the same pin for everything. Same one for 30 years. I use it at work daily, so never forget.

victoriaspongee · 12/03/2024 20:19

I have the same pin for every card so relatively easy to remember

A friend of mine changes her pin to the last 4 digits of the card which I thought was genius when she told me! 😂

ditalini · 12/03/2024 20:26

Most of my pins are the same and one of my cards lets look it up on screen, so I'm sorted if I ever forget.

Except one card came with a pin that happened to be an easy to remember date so I didn't change it. I always get that one wrong (turns out I have 2 easy to remember dates from that decade).

Emmerald · 12/03/2024 20:38

Personal Identification Number 😎
