Disturbing incident, please help me choose a ring doorbell?

Semi locally, last night a man was knocking on doors at 4am. Caught on many ring doorbells, people didn't open the door to him but found blood streaked all over the doors in the morning.
He's been arrested for stabbing people.

It made me think that I may have opened the door thinking it was a neighbour in distress or perhaps someone trying to warn us of an emergency etc...

With a ring doorbell I could enquire through the camera why they are knocking.

But there are so many.

I would like one that I can put an extra doorbell upstairs so my hard of hearing son knows when someone is knocking.

What's the best ones please?

I don't understand what the differences are.

We just have a bog standard one. It’s the Ring 2 doorbell I think. Not hardwired but it doesn’t need charging very often.

If you have Alexas you can program them to announce when the doorbell has been pressed and if your son is of an age where he has a smartphone he can have the app on there so he’ll get an alert when someone’s at the door.

We have the blink one from Amazon - wouldn’t recommend, it’s slow to load the live feeds and batteries run out quickly. I would probably go for a classic ring doorbell

Chargeable doorbell is easy to fit. Then you can buy a plug in device to hear it on (a ring chime) so could plug that in upstairs. Will work on phone too or an Alexa show.

We have a Ring 2, subscription is now £50 a year for storage, you can use it without paying the subscription but then you can't watch videos back, just real time.

There are cheaper ones online that work without a subscription but I have no idea of their quality. Ours is bulletproof, rain, hail, frost, sun, it just works. It's a few years old now, think we have charged it about three or four times. If you have every feature turned on the battery won't last as long though.

The microphone on ours is incredibly sensitive, we can literally hear the conversations of people walking down past the house on the opposite side of the street. This now makes me paranoid about any CCTV I pass! 😬

They can be battery or wired, just need a good WiFi connection.

Yes ring 2 is fine and I also recommend a camera like this amzn.eu/d/ibAzXWp if you want more of an overview.

I have a Eufy doorbell and it’s great. No subcription costs either. You can wired or battery -I have the battery and the charges lasts a couple of months. Videos are saved too.
