We live in a first floor flat within a VERY old building. The building is on a busy main road.

Conway are currently outside with some sort of truck with a laser on it, I assume taking away the top layer of tarmac (may have that entirely wrong!) as they are resurfacing the road.

Any way, FUCK ME the building is shaking so much. It tends to shake a little when big lorries, buses etc fly past but things in my kitchen are rattling at the moment with conway outside doing their thing and it feels awful.

Is this safe?!

Who are Conway and why are they digging the road at this time?

Just a stab in the dark, but maybe they're the company that is resurfacing the road? And that they're doing it late because that's when the road can be closed easily?

It's really loud, but it's completed so quickly in comparison to blokes with shovels and a roller, OP.

@PickAChew sorry yes, that’s the company the council have evidently instructed to resurface the road.

How they’ve authorized it to start at around 8pm at night is interesting but then again I suppose causes less chaos as it’s a very busy main road with schools etc, so closing it off during the day would be annoying.

It’s safe. Our road was resurfaced a few years back. The vibration is intense. Fun to watch though.

@Validus reading your comment whilst sat staring out of the window watching the whole thing 😂

When I read the title straight away I thought they are resurfacing your road! I remember when mine was done it was mad, so loud and shaky! I was annoyed it was done overnight but we lived on a fairly busy road at the time so better than than the mayhem of closing it during the day I guess. I wish they'd given us some notice of it though as I'd have gone and stayed at my mum's.

Oh yes! We had this and it was crazy. I had a newborn at the time and he slept really well through it I think he liked the vibrations.

suki1964 · 11/03/2024 21:32

We are having the road done outside my road right now as well, woke to find 10 lorries pulled up outside waiting to convoy the torn up road away

And yep, the vibrations are heavy

They actually go really deep with the taking off, so deep they have cracked a water. pipe and we have no water

Yeah its noisy and a total PITA but at last we are looking forward to not having our drive washed away with the rain

Your house will be fine, its been there a long time and the foundations are deeper then the road depth.

Thanks all - glad to know others have experienced it and are all ok! The shaking was really quite scary at one point, things were rattling in the kitchen!
