Please help with ideas for a small leaving gift? I'm rubbish at this stuff!

I'm a chronic over-thinker when it comes to gifting. Spend hours trawling the Internet and mooching around shops and end up with nothing.

It's a sad time at work - due to contract changes the team I've worked with for five years (some people a couple of years longer, some a few years shorter) are all splitting up soon. I'd like to find a small token to gift them all - 7 women all aged 35+ - on our last day together. We get on well and will miss each other.

Willing to spend around £5 - £7 per person. All I can think of is a pot plant, which is boring, or a mug... Also boring!

Do any of you marvellous lot have any ideas please?!

What about some really nice cake to have together on the last day or if you want to give a gift what about some Seeds like Forget me nots in a goodbye card they will come back every year and I think look lovely x

Any "in jokes" between the team you can use to get ideas?

Otherwise a nice sponge cake each from M&S and a funky mug might actually be well received!

I would bring in some nice stuff to share - a big box of cupcakes or fancy doughnuts, a box of sweets/chocs etc. That way you can have a bit of a laugh on your last day together enjoying the goodies.

If you have a nice photo of you all together you could get it framed and give them each a memento of the team.

MsFaversham · 11/03/2024 18:26

Have you got any photos of you all or could you take one? A small framed pic would be meaningful and not very expensive.

Thank you. I've actually already organised for a photographer friend to come along on our last day and take a group shot, and for a local café to supply an afternoon tea style lunch for us! I was thinking of printing the photo out after and getting them a copy each - we're putting a date in the diary for the summer to meet up.

I like the seeds idea, and have seen you can get wildflower seed bombs, so perhaps those in a card with some lovely heartfelt words would be sufficient?

There are a couple of in-jokes but they're more 1:1 than team wide 😂

I'd get a bouquet of cake flowers.

Honestly? I wouldn’t. It’s £35 you’re spending of stuff that will likely go into landfill. Spend the money of good cake or the afternoon tea or a bottle of champagne to share. Spent money on having a good time together, not on stuff.

LondonGrimmer · 12/03/2024 07:51

@PrinceLouisWeirdFinger (great name!) thanks but we're doing nice things together too, and I just wanted a keepsake or memento of our time together.

Think I'll go for some lovely words/funny poem in a nice card and the flower seed bomb idea on our last day, then frame the group photo after for everyone 😊
