Having not long dealt with the death of one of my kids, this would be honestly traumatising. Those poor families.

You can't mess with grief like that. People will be baying for blood.

crumblingschools · 14/03/2024 09:45

FIL was ad hoc staff for a local funeral director, helped with driving and coffin bearing. Not sure he ever went where the bodies were stored though. But you would think there would need to be more than 2 permanent staff

LiterallyOnFire · 14/03/2024 09:58

So sorry to hear that @gamerchick

nonumbersinthisname · 14/03/2024 10:04

Flowers @gamerchick

@SpringtimeBunny

The bodies are never burned as they travel down out of sight during a cremation service.
It can be days later as they will do several at the same time.
The coffin will also comprise part of the Ashes.

Check for smoke plumage next time you are wandering through a cemetery with a crematorium.

Exactly! Unsure why you've tagged me as that's what I was saying too

@gamerchick I’m so very sorry 💐

Has anyone seen the article in the sun tonight?

Owl55 · 16/03/2024 00:16

Presumably they arrange burials too maybe that is relevant , a woman interviewed on tv had memorial jewelry made from ashes and one of the bodies stored was her family member so who’s ashes were used?

DancesWithDucks · 16/03/2024 00:41

So very sorry Gamerchick.

When I visited behind the scenes at a crematorium and saw where the bodies were burned, it was all carefully handled. There was a great deal of quiet respect - the people carrying out the cremations were quite pragmatic, but with a sort of underlying decency. I found it deeply reassuring.

Kingston upon Hull is large town/ small city (city, I think) with a university but it's not a very affluent place.

It sounds like a small, independent funeral directors business, though.

Then again any funeral home could accumulate a large backlog of bodies if they were mishandling them long enough.

Hull is a city, and has roughly the population of Reading which is a town! It’s about twice as big as York, which is probably a more famous Yorkshire city, albeit in North Yorkshire not East Yorkshire
