There's a number to call for support if needed. They might be able to let her know if her mum was possibly affected

Edited

Yes she's rung them and isn't discussing anything any further so I'm assuming there's legal issues now 😢

Oh poor thing. Yes I imagine even if she wanted to talk she's probably been asked not to.

Hmnnnnn · 10/03/2024 20:17

Am guessing that the bodies were not stored at the right temperature!

Strawberr13s · 10/03/2024 21:27

My thoughts are one of these cremation services with no ceremonies. Give the families a box of whatever and dispose of the bodies yourself. I guess that's the downside of these types of funerals, no guarantee what you get back is your loved one.

Apologies to anyone triggered by that. It's vile and chancers are in every industry.

Reviews from 2 months ago -

I used legacy as it was local and came reccomended..we followed my mums wishes and everything seemed to go smooth until it was time to pick up mums ashes...(we had ordered a scatter tube and i gave rob 3 different ones he could order all of these had a meaning regarding mums wishes)..around 10 days later when we went to pick up mums ashes out came this huge awful plastic tub...NOT what
we requested, rob apologised asked if we could postpone the scattering of her ashes as he forgot to order the tube..i said no it was all arranged which he already knew, he then said he would collect one from another site,we agreed to this i again went over the ones we had chosen and also reminded him that he needed to keep a small amount of my mums ashes aside...when saskia dropped mums ashes off at my house later that night she had been placed into a totally inappropriate scatter tube and there was no separate ashes..i could rob totally devastated by this..he just kept saying sorry bless weve been busy...this was one of the last things i could do for my mum and it was ruined..totally heartbreaking and so undignified

Strawberr13s · 10/03/2024 21:32

And yes, they offer unattended cremations for about £1000 per body. How many bodies were removed...?

Maple

I'm not in the UK,is Hull a very big place or does that seem like a lot of bodies?

I know it sounds wrong but I'm hoping it's a case of not carrying out cremations as scheduled, as disgustingand disrespectful as that is, rather than any of the alternative explanations which come to mind which woukd be even worse.

Forhecksake · 10/03/2024 22:42

It was a member of the public who alerted the police. How bad did it have to be for a member of the public to find out?

DrJoanAllenby · 11/03/2024 00:08

I saw this on Facebook -

'I Think People should walk into their chosen funeral directors tomorrow and say
I want to see where you have been caring for my family members.
If they make excuses or say no just use a funeral director who is proud of his entire funeral home.

This industry cannot get any worse.
This is beyond sick.

I believe it's now time The Government started to Licence this industry.
And CAP Funeral Charges.
The National Association of Funeral directors Are a Joke.'

......

I had no idea that it wasn't a licensed industry.

The Daily Record -

'Officers raced to the Legacy Funeral Directors on both Anlaby Road and Hessle Road in Hull at around 3am on Thursday.'

3.00am? I wonder how it got reported?

Just awful!

Going by their Instagram account it seems that it’s a father and daughter that are working in the business which reflect the ages of those who are arrested that have been published in press.

On their Facebook page it seems to be the hat he was also selling personal vehicles / motorbikes on Marketplace as they are photographed in the various funeral homes next to hearses / walk in fridges too. Very disrespectful.

Having looked at their companies house records, I’d be surprised if they aren’t investigated and need a financial audit when you look through their accounts.

It seems like they aren’t very good at keeping up with accurate admin of the business itself. Over the last few years they’ve had multiple warnings of being struck off (for failing to do basic filing that the business is running!) Takes 15 mins at most once per year. There is another notice this year about them being struck off due to be published in the Gazette on Tuesday!

If the basic business admin is messy, I hope it doesn’t reflect in their service elsewhere in the running of the business.

In their financial accounts published last year their turnover was just shy of £75k. This doesn’t seem like a lot for running the 4 premises he had at the time in terms of running costs alone? But even if all their customers were to purchase the cheapest package of £970 (which is unlikely), that would be for 76 cremations. In reality it’s probably a much lower number of people, which begs me to wonder how on earth there are 34 bodies (at least half of the number of cremations they may do for an entire year?!)

Apparently there are only 2 staff members according to their accounts but there are plenty more photographed on Facebook etc. maybe “contractors” but sure.

He also setup a different business called “Cremations Direct LTD” during covid but messy filing and no accounts published too.

Just thinking of all the poor families affected. I hope they get answers sooner than later.

Can someone explain this to me, like I am 5? Ive read the article but I don't understand what has actually happened..

uncomfortablydumb53 · 11/03/2024 00:59

Disrespectful and sickening
I feel for the families involved, as if losing a loved one isn't heartbreaking enough, and then this
I can only guess bodies not stored appropriately or ashes not separated

Sushilover14 · 11/03/2024 01:00

Another possibility is necrophilia - as stomach churning as that is to contemplate. We don’t know what the company has done as of yet.

DeeCeeCherry · 11/03/2024 01:19

@2Old2Tango as an ex funeral director - do you think its a case of them taking in too many bodies, for the money? & what else could fraud part relate to?

Just trying to get my head around this as it sounds absolutely shocking.

Nobody knows! It's being kept under wraps for now, due to the sensitive nature

SpringtimeBunny · 11/03/2024 01:27

@SwordToFlamethrower Just that a man and a younger woman who own 3 funeral homes, have been arrested for fraud and improper storage of bodies and 34 bodies have been moved to a mortuary. That's it! That's all that's been released

Have you not read the article? Hmm They've been charged with fraud and improperly storage of bodies

Your imagination there is quite disturbing

It's required by law to adhere to certain standards and this will be displayed on the website and in the funeral parlour.

The suggestion that members of the public should be able to go and see where the deceased are before funeral other than a chapel of rest is a terrible one because it's disrespectful to other people in the funeral parlour but they can always ask a member of the regulatory company to do so .

LiterallyOnFire · 11/03/2024 05:27

But why? For what ends? And the report talks of possible fraud.

Greed or financial problems. Cremate half the cadavers. Pay half the cremation fees, Split the ashes between families. Something like that. It's repugnant but there was a similar case in the States a few years ago,

Kingston upon Hull is large town/ small city (city, I think) with a university but it's not a very affluent place.

It sounds like a small, independent funeral directors business, though.

Then again any funeral home could accumulate a large backlog of bodies if they were mishandling them long enough.

They've been taking payment from families to cremate bodies but not doing that (thereby saving on the fees they have to oh the crematorium), and doing something else with bodies instead. Details haven't emerged yet. Horrible crime.
