Pregnant after Vasectomy

So 11 months ago my husband had a vasectomy. I am also peri menopausal at 34, so when my period didn’t arrive, I didn’t worry.

I have felt extremely sick for a week. Took a test and I am pregnant. I last had a period 9 weeks ago but my periods have been very irregular so no clue how far gone I am. Husbands sperm sample in July 2023 was negative for live sperm.

Fuck. Terrified. Sick. Upset. And excited.

Also before anyone asks, no I absolutely have not cheated on my husband lol.

Op..... sometimes the tubes regenerate 😱❤️ good luck with your pregnancy, it must be a bit of a shock x

You end on 'excited'....so you are not totally against the idea?!

It is. I’m not religious but this honestly must be a miracle. Worried and anxious because of finances but also excited about this too. I don’t really know how to feel!

Absolutely not. The choice of vasectomy was purely financial really and I always said if I was Rich we’d have had another.

That would be my worst nightmare so I’m glad you’re more positive, if a bit shocked. What does your husband think?

Tittyfilarious · 10/03/2024 16:08

This is a happy miracle and his tubes must have re attached, congratulations op

bossybloss · 10/03/2024 16:10

That’s lovely news. You will make it work I am sure 👍

Tunnocks34 · 10/03/2024 16:11

Yes he got a negative result. My husband honesty is very easy going and is happy if I am. He would have had another child before having a vasectomy really - it was me who was certain we should count our blessing and stop at our three gorgeous boys

I am sure you can make it work, you sound lovely! Congratulations and Happy Mother's Day!

There may be insurance that can help you - I have a friend who sued, and the insurance company paid out. I don't actually know if it was NHS or private though, but it was the insurance that paid, not the health service.

@Tunnocks34 how many negative tests did he have? meant to have 2 negative tests to assume everything is ok. In saying that, occasionally the vas deferens does reconnect.

we had Dc4 after DH’s failed vasectomy. Was a huge shock OP, it took me a while to come round to the idea, finally went to the midwife at 14 weeks & scan at 16weeks. I considered termination but decided I didn’t want to. He is 4.5 now and wouldn’t change it for the world. DH had clear tests come back and it was some months after. He had to go for tests, came back as failed and he had to have the procedure again.

SgtJuneAckland · 10/03/2024 18:36

Oh God this is not the thread I wanted to come across a month after DH had a vasectomy.... I really want to come off the pill and now I'm terrified that even if he gets the negative/go ahead I'll end up pregnant. I really wouldn't be excited.
