France campsites for teens

Would appreciate some advice please in terms of recommendations for a campsite for teens (eldest 15) within reasonable ( a day’s drive ) from Il de Rhe .

We are on the island for a week ,and need to book the second week elsewhere.

We’ve been to Garangeoire /Vendee/La Croix de Vieux Pont /St Avit Loisirs before but looking for new ideas please !

Ideally close to a town, water slides ? a teen club (but not necessary if there’s a football pitch )

Any Dordogne recommendation for this age ( or elsewhere)

It can be a tricky age so I’d love some ideas!

Im following as would love some ideas too! Have 2 teen boys. Would you recommend any of the ones you have been to before?

AnLeanbh · 10/03/2024 11:40

La Garangeoire had lots to do ,football ,close to an adventure park ,etc -but-it really is in the middle of nowhere, and the nearest town was drab .Also ,very few other nationalities, and I always think it’s nice to have a mix when you go away.So ,we were a bit bored. But ,some love it and go back year after year .(We also found Centre Parcs a bit soulless when they were younger so maybe it’s just us!)

Avit -Loisirs pretty rural also (but we did very much like the Dordogne) V few teens as well for them to mix with.

I think a place with water slides ,close to pretty towns ,villages eg in Dordogne might be a sweet spot but the choice is bewildering .

Of note ,my teens love the Il De Re and bike around ,cycle to dinner etc (will be 5th year going ) but it’s just not big enough for pitches /water slides that other places have .

I realise this might campsite might not exist !

Look at Siblu Les Mathes.

Thank you !
I’ve not heard of those ones .

AnLeanbh · 10/03/2024 12:02

No .La Clary Plage /Jean de Mont a few years ago .

Helping you bump by asking questions 😁. How do you get to ile de re?

AnLeanbh · 10/03/2024 13:37

We drive ,then drive onto the island and don’t use the car again until we leave .
It’s fab.You cycle everywhere and it’s so pretty.
Plenty fly to La Rochelle ,then 20 min taxi over .

Yelloh! Les Grand Pins in Lacanau Ocean. Literally on the beach near Bordeaux.
Been here twice and it is fab.
My eldest was 13 last year and he loves it.
Has a brilliant pool complex, its own surf school and lots of cycle routes around it.

Love Ile de Re. We haven't been with the kids. Any tips on where to stay on the island or stop over on the drive there?

Invers45 · 10/03/2024 15:16

@winesolveseverything did you drive there? If so, any tips in stopover points?

ToMowOrNotToMow · 10/03/2024 15:21

Agree with @winesolveseverything that Les Grands Pins is fab. Also look at Sylvamar a little further down which is brilliant too with amazing evening shows.

Try Puy du Fou as well for a day or two of great entertainment - it’s on the way down to Ile de Re.

We sailed to St Malo, docked at 8:30am, then hit the motorway! Took us about 6/7 hours with a short snack stop and a longer lunch stop.

On the way home we left the site mid morning after a leisurely breakfast in the bar, drove back to St Malo and stayed in a hotel overnight. We then did the all day sailing back to Portsmouth.

AnLeanbh · 10/03/2024 22:32

We also drive to Ile de Re from St Malo and stay overnight there again before sailing back .
Sailing is easier to bring bikes ,and to return with a few bottles !
We have stayed in Rennes ,a university city ,en route one year ,another time in La Tranche Sur Mer ,lovely seaside village .
But it’s not a bad drive at all directly from the port .

So .Update .We have looked at all the suggestions ( thank you !) but my husband it turns out is really keen to return to the Dordogne after all this year🤔
We’ll drive there after a week on the island .

We probably going to camp near Sarlat ( possibly Le Soleil Plage if anyone has been ?) and the teens can occupy themselves with lots of kayaking /biking and we can all visit the pretty villages surrounding .

Lots of ideas for next year however from this thread 😊

Have a look at Camping le Paradis in the Dordogne.

Follow

samlovesdilys · 16/06/2025 16:30

Camping le paradis is lovely but no slides, Daglan is really good but I would be tempted to go back to St Avits, it’s so great with older kids!!
if you wanted Vendee I was going to suggest Le Pin Parasol, fab slides and by a lake…

fiorentina · 16/06/2025 16:56

Siblu Bonne Anse Plage is just down the coast and has good slices, cycle paths to the athletic coast with great waves for bodyboarding - assuming they are strong swimmers, paddle boarding/kite surfing etc in the bay. The town La Palmyre has bars and restaurants and is a walk or cycle away.
