I might need to relisten to PMQ’s but I’m sure Rishi alluded to his reasons for holding a national address becoming clear in the next week or so.

Bit more project fear headed our way I reckon, he’s played this incredibly poorly if this is a game plan. There is still a strong memory of WMD’s, the electorate do not appreciate dropping hints either share whatever this threat is or shut up.

I won’t be sorry if this is a massive own goal but feel my expectations of the public may be too high given the constant goading and encouragement to rail against each other.

Cornetto, the transcript is here if you want to read rather than relisten:

This is just too awful. Really it describes a party that is splitting apart in real time.

I did like Lego Elvis!

long but a good summing up of the tory situation bonbastix

It was one of the main purposes of the rport to uncover bulying off the back of allegations about Corbyn. It's not pretty.

The Starmer faction certainly behaved like schoolyard bullies towards the Corbynites.

To be honest though the whole of Parliament is often like a nasty playground. You don't see normal adults calling each other names and being rude in front of rooms of people in any other place, particularly not if they are being watched by the country. It's so very odd that these are the people chosen to look out for our interests yet they can't often be civil, as we mere mortals all have to be for work. It would solve a lot of issues if they could just talk without all of the "bantz" as if working in a used car sales forecourt.

No wonder there's no governing going on.
What a bloody mess.

Shetland pony of the apocalypse 😂

My goodness some of those insults are rather glorious.
its been an awful few days even by Tory standards, I alternate between utter despair & anger would love a government that just got on with job making decisions that benefit the country & just bloody governing rather than this cesspit of swamp inhabitants who have absolutely no moral compass.

placemats · 13/03/2024 15:58

I think that Labour should quickly resolve the issue of suspension regarding Diane Abbott. It's been 11 months now. Get on with it. Well done to all those sitting Labour MPs who wish the same.

Iagree with Andrew Sparrow in his verdict of PMQs today. Basically you cannot defend the indefensible. Every time you think that Rishi! cannot get lower, he surprises everyone by sinking lower.

What an appalling state of affairs. This Prime Minister is making everyone dance to his pathetically weak tune. If Rishi! wishes to save himself from embarrassment, he should call a general election now.

tobee · 13/03/2024 16:30

Everything is ruined.

bombastix · 13/03/2024 17:58

There is something about the 2019 Tory voter that is different from your dip dyed Conservative based on this in the Guardian;

L1ttledrummergirl · 13/03/2024 18:19

Am just listening to PMQs.

The NHS is fixed. No pay rise, fair pay is not on the agenda, but they can have a medal if they stay long enough. Yay the NHS is saved.

Loved Flynns questioning, I would love to see him working with Labour in cabinet. He appears to be capable, and it would be a shame to waste talent because he's not wearing the same colour rosette. Cooperation between them to improve the country as a whole.

Sunak is unfuckingbelievable. The racism is blatant, as is the attack on our freedoms. Rwanda is a trojan horse, but we see it.

This government is dangerous.

bombastix · 13/03/2024 18:21

I don't ever want to see the SNP and Labour work together thanks. One incisive question (which it was) is not enough. Labour for the whole of the UK.

Thanks for this, Duncin. I came off twitter because it was so toxic and I miss Russ!

Thanks @IClaudine.

I misremembered which question he was answering but this is the line that caught my attention:

”I urge the hon. Gentleman to wait for the details of the strategy. It is a sensitive matter, but it is one we must tackle because there has been rise in extremists who are trying to hijack our democracy”

it’s just got that wannabe-dictator, project fear vibe about it. I thought at the time of his pointless address he was acting against advice, possibly on intelligence that wouldn’t be publicised by any other PM unless absolutely necessary. I can absolutely believe he and his team would misuse and twist intelligence to their own agenda.

IClaudine · 13/03/2024 19:25

I think Sunak is finished. This is just not going away. May 2nd looking more and more likely?

Receiving some deeply concerning calls and messages from members of the @AhmadiyyaUK Muslim community about Michael Gove using one of their mosques today to pre launch his “extremism” strategy which seeks to target a number of Muslim organisations and individuals
They are concerned about the government playing dangerous and divisive politics and their community is being used to launch this controversial and damaging change in policy.
This divide and rule approach from government is intended to breed division and encourage mistrust
This must stop

I will not allow communities to be divided because of the games my colleagues are playing
The Ahmadiyya community are as appalled as other Muslim communities at the anti Muslim racism by some of my colleagues and that needs to be clear
Michael Gove will not divide us in his ideological pursuit of a policy that has been rejected and criticised by victims of terrorism , ex Home Secretary’s and even the Archbishop of Canterbury.

I really really hope so, either that or I am going to spontaneously combust in the very near future & some of the threads on MN last few days really haven’t helped.

Anyone notice the trans threads re emerging again. Ironic considering the events of the last few days but the usual posters are there pushing the agenda.
@IClaudine I’m not sure he’ll opt for May tbh. Irritatingly the media was on about the recession coming to an end and more economic optimism amongst business owners. I don’t things are as rosy as they are suggesting when you look at GDP per capita but nevertheless the tories will run with it.

pointythings · 13/03/2024 19:55

@Grapesarenottheonlyfruit when the shit is hitting the fan, the call goes out and out come the trans threads. It does seem however that fewer people are falling for them.
