Yes, that's quite a pattern of behaviour.

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2024 20:24

I mean how stupid are Tory HQ? They must have known that while they spent all day vacillating and declaring Hester not a racist/ a bit of a racist,The Guardian was patiently waiting to drop more.

Too busy posting merrily diversions on social media to do their job properly? They probably have thousands of sock accounts on Twitter and other such sites.

They'll claim it's all friendly bantz, innit?

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/03/2024 20:27

It’s the same tactic they’ve used since partygate. At some point you’d think they’d figure it isn’t working but they don’t seem to. Is it tomorrow Rishi is setting out his new plans on extremism.

I wasn't all that impressed by Starmer going along with Sunak's extremism speech, but was it Starmer playing the long game knowing that Sunak would sooner or later get hoisted by his own words?
Much like Boris was with parties.

Edited

I think he was wise to say what he did.It was quite low key.

I think that stepping back a little and letting the Tories drown in their own filth is a good tactic.

Looking forward to PMQs tomorrow!

It’s behind a paywall and I still haven’t figured out how to share link but the Times are running a story on a plan to pay asylum seekers to go to Rwanda or back home. Can’t see how that’s going to go down well with anyone.

Also, I’m not sure if we mentioned that as of yesterday immigrant Heath and social care workers are now banned from bringing their family with them. Which will do loads to solve the staffing crisis we have.

Ah, they are now back on trying to increase migration.
Perhaps the effects of last time they tried that by increasing climate change were too long term?

"In its statement, Downing Street said that comments “allegedly made by Frank Hester were racist and wrong”. A spokesperson added that his remorse should be accepted after he “rightly apologised” for the offence caused."

Tory donor’s comments about Diane Abbott ‘racist and wrong’, No 10 says | Conservatives | The Guardian

I don't think they have the right to ask people to accept someone's remorse.

No they don't. In politics, you are subject to judgment.

Sunak is not running a religious order.

Encouraging gun violence against a female mp

It's only 6 years since a Jo Cox was murdered by a right wing nutter

This is beyond unacceptable and I hope Diane Abbott has contacted the police

I really hope someone asks Sunak those detailed questions - especially with his comments on extremism recently.

I'm horrified.

This country is utterly fucked with the govt in power pmfunded by these people. And there are so many who share his views.

I'm not a poc, but I have to wonder at the cognitive dissonance needed from the like of Sunak, Badenoch, etc

They are tolerated by their party and membership at best.

Baffling.

user8800 · 12/03/2024 21:13

Is Sunak keeping the Hester story going so he can bury this Rwanda story?

bombastix · 12/03/2024 21:21

@user8800 - yes. What kind of acceptance is there is the Conservative Party? The chances are that the general public are more liberal.

Sunak was not elected. What credibility does he have left? Reject the money and he can appeal to the centre credibly but the hard right will scream. More votes to Reform.

Keep the money and he is a bought man. No one will vote for that either. What are you voting for? A diverse party funded by a racist? It is incoherent. I do not believe a majority would be faintly interested in Sunak or their next leader on that basis. They are doomed.

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/03/2024 21:59

The Tory party may well be very diverse. But it also seems to contain an awful lot of racists and misogynists as well.

Its diverse in the sense that they hate a diverse range of people.

BIossomtoes · 12/03/2024 22:35

It’s diverse in that it’s got the widest array of fruit loops you could ever imagine.

Jason118 · 12/03/2024 22:49

I'd say it's less diverse than it was. So many moderates have gone, only the odd and wacky are left.
