Poor packaging on Vinted

I bought some tarot cards off a seller. The photos showed they were immaculate. On arrival the tarot cards cases have all arrived dented as they were packaged in thin postage bags with no bubble wrap or box. I selected the poor packging option and it says Vinted are going to investigate. The seller has messaged to ask what the issue was. I am annoyed as I would have happily paid more postage if the seller did not want to use sufficient packaging.

You bought second hand cards off a random private online seller… what were you expecting?

I've had clothes posted in a bin bag before off vinted! Or a used postage bag that had been turned inside out and used again 😂

I'm pretty sure this is what the vast majority of sellers do (me included). If the packaging is still useable, why chuck it in the bin if it can be reused? Obviously in the OPs case the seller should've used something that protected the cards better, but a bin bag, bag for life or reused postal bag are all absolutely fine for clothes.

I used a rubble sack as a mailing bag recently! Did the job perfectly. Have also sent and received many parcels in inside-out used postage bags. No need to use more plastic than necessary.

What’s wrong with this?! I’d rather the clothes be in recycled packaging and the price kept down. I think nearly every seller does this?

They're investigating - I think that's fine?

I used to buy and sell a lot on Vinted and bin bags etc for clothes (especially bargain clothes) is standard. However, something like cards where they can get damaged I would have used a box to send them tbh. I do understand why you've raised it with Vinted

i sell on ebay and use postage bags but something like cards or a book i put a layer of bubble wrap round them clothes go in an inner bag then an outer bag dosent take more than 30 seconds to add a layer of wrapping

Agree. I do this too, if it's a decent sturdy plastic bag.

Sellers don’t have the option to charge more for postage on Vinted. I send and receive in reused packaging and think it’s a great thing. Crucially though it needs to be suitable for the item, it’s a pity the item has been damaged. I’m sure you will be given the option to return them.

One seller I bought boots from sent them in a half clear plastic bag, with a few bits of scrappy sellotape. I’ve seen minimal packaging before but that was quite minimal. 🤣

ZombieBoob · 09/03/2024 21:27

Did anyone else see the tiktok of an item being sent in a crisp packet? Cheese and onion one at that

bumblebutt28 · 09/03/2024 21:32

I have literally repurposed a home bargains carrier bag into packaging to send off some clothing today. In this case it's the same as a Jiffy bag. If it's something breakable or could be easily damaged then fair enough, complain. But overall I couldn't care less what it arrives in.
