I hear you! Looking at my mum's failing health is quite scary. She is 30 years older than me though and was a powerhouse till quite recently. Seems a shame to start worrying about it too early. I've been trying to do small positive changes to keep well mentally and physically, and I'm finding that helpful.

Better than the alternative I suppose! I actually quite like it. Relationships are strong, I don't worry about what people think which is freeing and I'm lucky enough to have gone part time. And, honestly, i was not ever 'pretty' so I don't worry about losing my looks, and feel more comfortable in my own skin than ever. Maybe you need to look at changing your mindset?

There's nothing you can do about time passing you just have to make the most of the time you've got. I'm 69 so I've had those thoughts and I understand what you mean but you just have to get on with the life you have.

Nicetobenice67 · 09/03/2024 17:28

I work 50 hrs a week cannot afford part time …I’m single brought my own house so done very well there I am quite attractive so I guess it’s my looks I’m worried about tbh call it vanity if you like I’m just being honest

Are you still feeling a bit blue today OP? I get a shock looking in the mirror sometimes. It's just another change we all go through I think. I hope it was just a blip 💐 I think there's a lot to be said for heading into our post menopause years with a bit of humour about it all, and gratitude for what we have, but it's also understandable to mourn those days of being young. I wouldn't go back, despite the wrinkles and occasionally aching joints, though. I can still do what I want to do, and I also think that older women have a lot to offer, and look good while they are doing it.

JustBloodyWellSayNo · 10/03/2024 11:07

I'm 65. Have my hair cut and coloured, wear make-up that flatters me (nothing heavy). I dress for comfort but wear attractive colours. I hate getting old, but am glad to be able to here - I had a very serious illness almost 3 years ago, had to have a lot of rehab. There are worse things about getting old than simply losing my looks.

I think we probably all do @Nicetobenice67! I look at my DDs and daughter in law and they are gorgeous! I look in the mirror and see my own mum, but people still say how much my girls look like me which is comforting! Meanwhile my mum is ancient and rickety but still fighting the good fight with colourful clothes and make up even though she rarely leaves the house. I feel quite dowdy in comparison 😂
