Driving lessons: best car for insurance and (automatic)

Looking for some advice as DD will be starting her driving lessons when she turns 17 in July.

I know I need to plan ahead, so a few questions:
How many lessons on average needed for an automatic (bound to be fewer)
How to reduce the car insurance as much as possible - tips
What car to buy (automatic, presumably smaller engine) - automatic / litre?

Thanks!

I don't think there is an "average". I have 3 dcs and they have all been completely different.

By limiting herself to automatic, she drastically reduces the choice of cars she will be able to buy.

It is easy to find the insurance groups with a quick google. She could then use that list as a starting point for looking for cars within her budget.

Thanks yes done the google. Interestingly, though, (and we did one for petrol cars) a friend recommended a brilliant car that had not come up via the search or in the categories. This particular car was exempt from road tax etc too and small engine. Overlooked so it's that kind of advice I'm looking for really.
Thanks anyway

I have a little vauxhall agila which is reasonably low on insurance and very reliable. It was my first car and still have it 7 years down the line, no mechanical issues.
