Item related to horses

I’m using the MN hive mind because we’re drawing a blank.

DH’s football team take an ‘item of the week’ to all matches as a bit of fun. This week the item is ‘something related to horses’ but not a photo/picture of a horse as that’s cheating.

We don’t have a horseshoe or anything like that so what could he take that we’re likely to find in our house in the next hour?!

It’s only a bit of fun so it really doesn’t matter, but I’ve got a bee in my bonnet about it now 😄

A handful of mud? (Horsey person here and currently it's all mud!)

Flatleak · 09/03/2024 11:23

Something braided? Some apples or sugar cubes? A rug?

Flatleak · 09/03/2024 11:24

Have you got a tube of polos?!

They’re very partial to a polo, mints, apples, carrots!

DSD9472 · 09/03/2024 11:25

A sugar cube, carrot, onion or handful of grass?

Maddy70 · 09/03/2024 11:26

Straw
Whip (no judgement here lol)
Brush
Shovel
Wellies
Carrot

Do you have a rosette lying around in a drawer of doom?
I think we have a few birthday ones in ours.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 09/03/2024 11:27

If you have a newspaper, cut out the race cards from the sporting section.

I'm intrigued by the onion....

These are brilliant ideas, thank you!

Typically we have no carrots or apples in. No Polos either, but do I have some Extra Strong Mints 😄

My pony likes to share extra strong mints with my husband. Good call!

idontlikealdi · 09/03/2024 11:33

Extra strong mints will work:)

I'm intrigued by the onion....

I helped out in stables as a child, and they used to give us a peeled onion to feed the horses which they gobble down! This was abroad, so maybe not the done thing now? I have no idea?

Stop at the Bookies on the way and pick up a betting slip

I thought this was going to be the winner, I was convinced we had one somewhere among the sentimental birthday cards but I can’t find it!

Extra Strong mints may have to work

Oh no!

OK, Plan B is a copy of Jilly Cooper’s Riders… 😉

DSD9472 · 09/03/2024 11:48

Another idea- any books with horses?
Black beauty, encyclopedia with pics?

Onions are not good for horses in fact they are toxic so anybody reading this please don’t feed them

DSD9472 · 09/03/2024 11:56

@Blackcats7 Thank you for letting us all know. As said, this was abroad when I was child, so clearly they had no idea onions were toxic 😬

There's a quote in one of the herriot books about and old dales farmer talking about putting an onion in a horse's rectum to make it get to it's feet. Herriot rightly said something on the lines of 'would you like an onion up your rectum' to the farmer.
So i thought I'd ask the question 😂 😳
