Is anyone still up?

I know it’s really late. I’m just having a quite terrible night, pain wise, nothing’s working, and I don’t feel very brave right now.

GreenRaven · 09/03/2024 03:15

me too. And I left my painkillers downstairs and can't face the walk down to get them. Although I might have to in the end

GreenRaven · 09/03/2024 03:16

possibly there is an area somewhere between my right knee and ankle which isn't currently hurting....

What are you doing tomorrow? ( ie later today) I'm volunteering in a prison. If I take those painkillers tonight I will not be on top of my game tomorrow at all. I will be forgetful and feel sick

5YearsLeft · 09/03/2024 03:27

Oh @GreenRaven that's awful. I’ll pray that either a miracle or alien abduction, whatever works, transports you downstairs ASAP. Oh no, I just saw you’re volunteering tomorrow, so it’s a tough, tough choice on the painkillers. What a mess. I wish there was a better middle ground. I’ll probably be reading in bed tomorrow.

@Namemchangeforthispostonly101 I don’t know if there’s anything that doesn’t hurt, truly. Every joint connection in my body. Every where there’s a vein. Even my stupid hair hurts. I’m so, so tired.

sounds really miserable @5YearsLeft do audiobook help at all? I have my favourites I have listened to so often I can doze on and off and not lose my place in the story

5YearsLeft · 09/03/2024 03:34

@GreenRaven That sounds so smart. I’ve been thinking about audiobooks since I’m getting worse. I really enjoy Terry Pratchett’s Witches books, so I may try them on audio, because I know them pretty well and hopefully if I dozed off for a bit, it would be okay. New audiobooks would be too difficult for that reason.

My other favourite is "In our time" on Radio 4. I listen to the same ones over again.

5YearsLeft · 09/03/2024 03:41

@GreenRaven Oh, I haven’t tried listening to that. Thanks so much! I’ll give it a go.

I'm up, though it's only just past 11 (I'm in Canada). My wife is seriously ill, and I am contemplating sleeping on the couch, to be on the same floor as her, in case she needs me during the night.

On the couch, I will not sleep well; if I go to bed, I will be 'sleeping' with one ear open, in case she calls.

Either way, it's gonna be a long night, and I will feel terrible in the morning.

5YearsLeft · 09/03/2024 04:16

@CanadianJohn Ah, I work with a bunch of Russian Canadians online, so I often have to deal with the time difference.

But I’m so sorry to hear about your wife. Life is a damn unfair place sometimes. You’re a good spouse to be there for her, and I really hope you two still have some good days ahead. And I definitely understand… not much worse than a Catch-22 of no good place to sleep.

I hope you can maybe doze a bit tomorrow.

CanadianJohn · 09/03/2024 04:29

@5YearsLeft thanks for replying. I think I'm gonna go to bed... my wife has an alarm button beside her bed, and one in the bathroom, but she forgets to use the button, and calls out for me instead.

The thing is, she has terminal cancer, and this is my future, for the duration. She had a bad day today, but I can't stay up every night. There will be more bad days than good.

All the children were here today, but I will be the sole carer for the weekend.

And so to bed...

JenaWren · 09/03/2024 04:34

I'm up OP. I'm contemplating going downstairs to listen to an audiobook so I don't disturb my other half who is a champion sleeper.

I really can recommend audiobooks if you're not feeling brave at night. I'm listening to Sandy Toksvig's memoir. It's just lovely and like having a friend to hold your hand.

I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

5YearsLeft · 09/03/2024 04:38

@CanadianJohn Good luck.

@JenaWren Ah, sorry to hear you’re up, too. Thank you so much for the recommendation! That sounds really lovely. And yes, I’m sure tomorrow has to be better than today. Er, I assume, har har.

I fell asleep earlier then woke up and started to watch the Usual Suspects.

Feel too lazy to put the kettle on so I'm drinking water.

Hope everyone isn't too shattered later on :)

sashh · 09/03/2024 04:45

Hi OP another one in pain, as usual.

Come over to the cafe, we have a petting zoo, hot drinks and calorie free food.

5YearsLeft · 09/03/2024 04:59

@SheepAndSword Definitely had that before. Would kill for a cup of tea. But kettle? That’s just a bridge too far. I stayed the summer with a mate who had an instant boiling tap in his kitchen - tea in seconds. Was heaven.

@sashh Oh there’s a cafe now, with a FULL petting zoo? Wow, I actually didn’t realize. Which board is it on? Then again, I’ve had mediocre luck with petting zoos - a goat once ate my shirt right off me. As a 10-year-old girl, I thought I’d die of the humiliation. Turns out nope, I’m going to die of vasculitis! Har har.

OP posts:
5YearsLeft · 09/03/2024 05:01

@sashh And of course, I’m so sorry you’re in pain. It’s just such a bastard, isn’t it?

The cafe opened in lockdown

Kitten bees are kittens the size of bees but with tings
Bumblecats are large, fiestyer and live outdoors.

Marmite is kept in a locked cupboard outside the cafe and may never cross the threshold.

Leo is a Lemur who came from a wildlife park and keeps stealing things for the goats in the pettng zoo.
