What happened ? Couldn't feel my leg

So yesterday my left eye went strange.
I seen a flashing light in left eye ,like a lightning bolt that was flashing but I also couldn't see everything out of my eye ,I was looking at my phone and I had a blind spot and couldn't focus .
The flashing light moved across my left eye and then went away after 30 mins.
At the same time my opposite leg felt really heavy and when I stood up it felt strange to walk on.
After I got a bad headache and felt freezing and so tired.
Today I'm fine.
I've had the flashing lights before around 5 times over the last 10 years.
Optician said previous a retinal migraine
Would I get the heavy /couldn't feel leg with it?

I don't know, sorry. Best to go to a doc.
I hope you get it sorted soon

Migraine with aura. You can get the headache or not, but the aura part is exactly as your description of the vision issue.

The leg thing, is it a bit like numbness followed by pins and needles? That's also related to the aura migraine. I've had that before although it's been a small patch of skin rather than a whole leg. Have a Google and see if it can be larger areas!

Could be many things. I'd guess a migraine. But I think it's really important to go to the GP with these symptoms to rule other things out.

daysmustgetbetter · 08/03/2024 21:01

@PipsHip yes that's exactly what it was ,the leg thing only lasted a couple of minutes
Afterwards I was freezing and so tired
Woke up this morning and was fine
I've been really stressed lately so wondering if it's a trigger for them

Something very similar happened to me. I went to a&e and they sent me an on the day MRI. (At this point I had no symptoms anymore as they didn’t last longer than 30 mins- flashing eyes, tingling/ heavy arm on one side.) Scan was clear and they said it was a hemoplegic migraine. I would get some medical advice - as they were most concerned about potential stroke/ blood clot, despite being in 30s.

PipsHip · 08/03/2024 21:02

The symptoms do match migraine with aura absolutely exactly. But as pp said, best to check with GP.

Tilllly · 08/03/2024 21:03

I get retinal migraines which are as you describe. I don't often get that funny feeling in my leg, just occasionally and sometimes in my arm instead. I find if I don't get that feeling in my arm or leg, I'm usually alright pretty fast afterwards, where as if I do, I'm absolutely shattered for 24 hours.

But I do think it's worth asking your doctor, because it might need checking out

PipsHip · 08/03/2024 21:04

Hemiplegic migraine sounds very similar symptom wise. Thank you for pointing that out @sweetdreams23

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/03/2024 21:07

Definitely worth speaking to GP for comfort, but all sounds like migraine to me. I get them - disturbed vision for around 30 minutes, and sometimes they leave me utterly wiped out. And I get really cold when I'm wiped out. My triggers are usually hormone related or stress.

daysmustgetbetter · 08/03/2024 21:09

It's crazy as this happened for 30 mins then went away and I went to Tesco and felt fine but really tired and freezing
Haven't had one for years
Really scary when it happens

Yes I agree with above comment mentioning hemiplegic migraine. I had one last year and it was my right arm that went numb and I wasn’t able to grab anything with my hand or hold a pencil for around 10-15 minutes

hban · 08/03/2024 22:21

I had this about 6 months ago and I went to a and e with a suspected stroke, however it turned out it was a hemiplegic migraine. I spoke to a few doctors about it and they all thought the same. I had a ct scan and mri to rule out anything else.

I had the same visual symptoms, heavy right leg, arm and I also struggled with memory. Was really tired after and took me about a week to get back to normal.

for me it is caffeine and stress induced. I was going through a really stressful ongoing event when it happened. Also when I don’t get enough sleep, happens more around my period. It’s never happened again like the first time as i now see small warning signs and take it easy

Tilllly · 15/03/2024 23:47

How're you doing @daysmustgetbetter?

daysmustgetbetter · 16/03/2024 11:51

@Tilllly absolutely fine, never happened since and no other weird symptoms
Fingers crossed won't happen again

That's good, @daysmustgetbetter

Might be worth making a few notes on your phone, in case it ever does
