Feeling lazy - CBA to unpack the shopping

How long have you left it in bags? I've put away the fridge/freezer stuff and the rest is in bags on the floor. I just CBA tonight - what's the longest you've ever left it in bags?

I never have. I just put it away when it arrives. Do it now and you'll feel better for it.

An evening or so kind of time.

If it doesn't annoy you just let it sit!

Cloudful · 08/03/2024 19:40

I once paid DS £5 to unload it 😂 but I’d walked round the supermarket with grumpy ds2 and had had it for the day. I soon realised an extra £5 a week just for unpacking a few bags wasn’t feasible. So now I make a cup of tea, pop a box set on and get it all done as soon as I’m home.

BreakfastAtMimis · 08/03/2024 19:42

I regularly leave shopping in bags on the floor for days! No difference between a bag and a cupboard really.

sephiroth23 · 08/03/2024 19:43

There's still a bag with some chopped tomatoes in down the side of the kitchen table from a week ago BlushBlush

YouReallyAre · 08/03/2024 19:46

Mine have been on the kitchen floor since yesterday and will continue to stay there until at least tomorrow morning.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 08/03/2024 19:48

oh god no, couldn't cope with that. Don't you fall over it?

LyndaSnellsSniff · 08/03/2024 19:52

We put it away immediately. I say 'we' but more often than not DH will bimble off somewhere and leave me to it.

I remember my mum would cover the kitchen floor in bags and would have a cup of tea (still with her coat on) before tackling it. You had to be super careful if you needed to pick your way across the kitchen, weaving in between the Safeway's bags!

TokyoSushi · 08/03/2024 19:53

Come on now, do it! You'll be finished by 8pm and feel much better!

dreadisabaddog · 08/03/2024 19:54

We get our deliveries between 8 and10pm as it's cheaper. I don't put the cupboard stuff away til the next day!

I usually have a morning delivery and unpack fairly quickly but could only get one today if I had it this evening. You're right of course but I'm sitting here with a glass of wine and thinking it can wait.

I've put the bags against the dishwasher, sink and cooker and as I have no intention of using any of those things this evening, I'm safe for now.

Within 10 minutes.

We have a system. One adult does the shop, the other adult and the children put away.

Husband handles freezer and fridge
DS1 deals with dried goods and cans
DS2 bathroom bits and putting away the bags.

Whilst I make tea and sit down 😁

Sparklfairy · 08/03/2024 20:01

Like, basically until I need something from the bag to make a meal Grin I live alone though, if I wanna be a slob no one (except MN, now) is going to know...

Edited to clarify - I don't do this every time, but it has been known!

That's a great system! My offspring have all grown and flown and this evening I only have a dog, a 94 year old mother and a DH who isn't home.

@Shetlands ah in that case, enjoy the wine...the shopping can wait 😊

I almost jumped up and did it as @TokyoSushi spurred me on but couldn't quite get my backside off the sofa. Also the dog is curled up beside me and I'd couldn't disturb her could I!

I confess another reason putting me off is that I know I've bought too much stuff and a couple of cupboards will need rearranging to pack it all in. It's so much easier to click 'add to basket' online than it is to 'add to cupboard' in real life.

I’ve been known to leave it in the corner of the kitchen in bags, empty it by using the stuff and putting the store cupboard bits away when I can be bothered…maybe a week later. I give no shits 😂

MuggleMe · 08/03/2024 20:17

I often leave it a day. I shop at 7pm on a Monday then have a group I go to so DH puts away fridge and freezer away and I'll put the rest away as a WFH on Tuesdays.

HumphreyCobblers · 08/03/2024 20:30

I always do it at once but I absolutely hate doing it. All that faffing. Only thing I hate more is hanging out washing and DH does that mostly.

AlwaysGinPlease · 08/03/2024 20:33

You definitely can't move her so it's a tomorrow job! I currently have two of ours curled up on my feet and I need a wee, but I can't stand it disturb them 😂

DilemmaDelilah · 09/03/2024 04:44

I'm pretty slack about a lot of things but I don't leave my shopping in the bags. Not because I'm a 'get things done now' person but because I've never even thought about it! And I have a long narrow kitchen so we would be falling over them.

Most things, in fact 90% of things, get put away as soon as they come out of the bags, a few things get left on the stairs until the next time somebody goes up, occasionally something gets left on the kitchen worktop because I'm going to use it later or I can't be arsed to think about where it should go at the time.

Justleaveitblankthen · 09/03/2024 05:40

I've done that thing of putting away a couple more items each time I use the kitchen again.

That was when I used to shop late night.

These days, I'll put my headphones on and listen to a Podcast.
Podcasts gets me through all the mundane and lengthy housework tasks.
