Hotel recommendation near Manchester/Chester/York

Posting here hoping for advice as holiday section can be quiet.

We are visiting Manchester and north of England for first time in 30 years in May, coming from abroad into the airport. 2 adults one 10 year old. Hiring a car.
Where to stay 🤷‍♀️

We need

  • 3 days in Manchester
  • 2 days in Chester
  • 3 in York
Then going to Northumberland but accommodation sorted there.

Where is nice, I always dreamt of staying at the Lowry when I was a student, is it worth it?

Was looking at Carden Park hotel, near Chester - any thoughts?

No idea on Chester or York as we’ve never been.

Or other ideas, want a swimming pool and to be in the city for one of the stays. But would look at apartments for the space as one hotel room might give me cabin fever!

Something nicer than budget but not crazy expensive.

If anyone’s stayed somewhere they’d recommend please help.

Budget per night ? How many people?

do you have a preference the centre or out of the centre ?

The principal in York would fit your requirements - very central, with a pool and parking which is unusual in York. Do note parking is extra, £19 per night.

We have stayed here a couple of times when we've been to Chester. It's nice and reasonably priced. Family room was huge.

Carden park for Chester
The principal for York
The lowery or midlands for Manchester

Olderkids · 08/03/2024 19:05

Or The Grosvenor, Pulford, just outside Chester

A car and needing parking is going to limit your options in all 3 cities, why don’t you get the train? Or if you’re exploring beyond the city centres you’ll probably need to stay a bit further out. Have a look around media city / Salford quays if the Lowry isn’t on budget.

Love the Grand in York.

Springsocks · 08/03/2024 20:31

I appreciate your ideas

Booked Lowry in Manchester.
Booked Carden Park (or will soon)
The Principal in York is only letting me book for a child under one year old 🤷‍♀️
So am thinking again for that part -

Any other thoughts around North Yorkshire, doesn’t have to be York as we’ll have the car.

Have you checked the Grand in York? The headline prices can look a little steep but if you still down you can usually find a good deal. The hotel is lovely and the pool is great.

The Novotel in York has a pool, free parking, and does family rooms and free kids’ breakfasts.
