Secret day off

Today, I had a secret day off work. It was lovely. I had my favourite breakfast salmon with scrambled eggs and brown sauce. Lounged on the couch, watching Neflix and had french bread with Brie for lunch and a glass of wine. It was so nice. I didn't tell anyone because at least one of the kids would have tried to stay home and my husband would have probably took the day off too so we could go for lunch. I just wanted to chill out all by myself and it was perfect. Do you ever have a secret day off?

Haha, I had my afternoon client cancel on me and I was excited as it’s the one day a week DH doesn’t WFH so I knew I could have a long bath and sing along to the hits of the West End without a care 😀

I did this on Wednesday morning. My original plan was to go to a spa, but I have no money. I left home at 07h30 instead of 06h30, walked for 30 minutes, did a weekly project meeting online with a colleague from the upstairs of a deserted McDonald's with a café, worked there for an hour, then went to get my legs waxed, then walked for another 30 minutes, looked in a shop for Easter chocolates and another shop for accessories for DD, then got a bakery lunch and ate slowly in-house while mindlessly scrolling on my phone, then had walked home, stopping for another coffee, in time to get back by 14h to take DS to sport.

It was great.

It was totally last minute. I only asked my boss yesterday. It was just what I needed. I did feel a bit guilty as the kids headed to the bus stop in the rain but not enough to offer to drive them.

Mine won't be secret, but it's my birthday next Tuesday, kids will be at school and DH at work and I'm planning on school drop off, yoga, cinema with a naice sandwich and a glass of wine and then see what they've planned for the evening! Wink

I'm not telling anyone I'm off work one day next week and once I've waved the kids off to school ( teens- they walk themselves) I'm going to change out of my work clothes back into PJs and lounge on the sofa with a new book.
I'll be dressed again by their return at 3:30pm and pretend I've just got home.

Whenever I have a weekday off something ALWAYS means I can't spend it chilling out (one of them 'poorly', an errand to run or I've somewhere I need to go or a friend will want to meet up).

Next xxxxday is MINE.

I'm getting ideas! I'm going to do this

Iloveacurry · 08/03/2024 17:58

Sounds lovely!

@Watchthedoormat This morning, I followed my same routine, I usually leave around the same time as the kids give or take 5 mins, so they didn't suspect a thing. I was in the shower when they got home, so they thought I'd just got in. My husband just told me to relax while he sorts dinner. He gave me a glass of wine and asked how was work?. I took great pleasure in telling him about my relaxing day.

I do this several times a year.

I’m under a lot of stress helping to care for my mum who has Alzheimer’s so it’s my time and I just don’t feel any guilt at all.

I buy myself a big bar of chocolate, a giant packet of beef Monster Munch (I do usually eat really well) and scoff and snooze all day.

I don’t tell a soul, the only other who knows is my dog but seeing he gets a cuddle all day I think he’s decided to keep it our little secret!

Yes. I also have a friend who has had a Tuesday off work for years. She doesn't tell anyone so she can hide away and doesn't think I know, but I do. She will undoubtedly be spending all day in bed with a book 😆
