Blocked from facebook because I'm going too fast - eh?

Following the outage the other day, I haven't tried to get back onto Facebook again until today, and since I've forgotten my password I'm putting in my email address and clicking on the forgotten password thing.

It then tells me I am temporarily blocked from facebook because it looks like I'm going too fast.

what on earth does that mean, why is it doing that, and is there a way I can get round it?

If anyone can help I'd be grateful, thanks.

Oh and by the way I am a computer dinosaur and using a Chromebook.

Did it ask you to click the boxes that have bikes in the picture etc? Apparently that’s also a speed test; AI does it really quickly, a human slowly.

WearyAuldWumman · 08/03/2024 15:56

I’ve had this with Twitter a few times. Cos I can touch type, I get messages accusing me of automated behaviour - currently I’m on my phone, but I usually use my laptop for social media.

It didn't do anything like the 'are you a robot?' questions, and I don't type that quickly, especially not when I am making 100% sure I have input my email address correctly into a field. I went carefully to make certain that I put the right email address in the box, then clicked the forgotten password link. It then took me to another screen asking for my password again, which I did (again) slowly and it was then it told me that it looked like I was going too fast.

I've always stayed logged into facebook, so it is just there when I open it. I don't think I have used the password since my work colleague asked me to think of one. She helped me set the account up about 10 years ago.

Somehow fb seems too think I am some hacker's computer going at lightning speed with a thousand transactions a second or something.

Anyway, I am now blocked from Facebook, and I have no way of finding out why, and don't have a clue how to fix it.

Thanks for that Confused

Well, typing more slowly or completeing the reCAPTCHA more slowly is often a fix for this as it may think it is automated behaviour.

In that case I would clear cookies / cache and the restart device and try again. It may be that it is reverting to a previous browser session You could also try using an incognito window.

Yes, but that post was clearly sarcastic and pass-ag unhelpful. I don't type at the speed of light anyway.

Okay, it didn't come across like that to me it was literally just saying type slower. It is the sort of thing our IT guys would say. Hope you get it sorted anyway.

citrinetrilogy · 08/03/2024 17:18

Thanks @rainbowunicorn I have looked elsewhere online and it said to clear the cache, which a pp upthread suggested as well, so I looked up the instructions on how to do it, and did that. I've then completely logged out, switched my router off for half an hour and then logged back in again. Here's hoping 😂

I don't think it was.

I don't think it was.

I do.

I came on here asking for advice and help about how to resolve an issue, and the first answer has only two words in it. I also said in my OP that I'm a computer dinosaur so it was pretty unlikely that I would be typing too fast for FAcebook to comprehend. The answer was absolutely no use or help to me whatsoever.

This keeps happening to me, but only with the Google browser. If I switch to Safari (I'm on a Mac), it lets me in straight away.
