Has anyone bought a gaming pc off wowcher? The prices seem a bit too good to be true, my son wants one for his birthday but they are way out of budget for me but came across some refurbished ones on wowcher but they are very cheap. Anyone bought one? Is it too good to be true?

What deal are you looking at, what's your budget and what games does your son want to play? Happy to workshop it!

this is the one but I’m guessing it’s too good to be true as the other one I was looking at was double the price but I couldn’t afford more than about 350 hence looking at refurbished/ secondhand he only wants to play Roblox but doesn’t want anything other than a gaming pc (does not want a console, regular laptop or iPad etc)

Gaming PC Bundle - Intel Core i3 128GB SSD 8GB RAM Deal - Wowcher

£209 for a refurbished PC with 500GB, £229 for a refurbished PC with 1TB, £249 for a PC bundle with 500GB or £269 for a PC bundle with 1TB from Gaming PC 4 U – save up to 33%

What games is he looking to play? The specs on that are not great and he may struggle with a lot of games.

ParrotParrot · 07/03/2024 19:51

He only plays Roblox

That's got a 13yo processor, a 10yo graphics card. Roblox is unfussy but it won't look great and will be frustrating to maintain. If it were £100 on gumtree I'd say sure, but it seems a bit much for that old a PC.

When you say he wants a gaming pc, does he just want something blingy and full of lights? A reconditioned laptop is probably better value - you can still attach a monitor and light-up keyboard later.

It's not a good PC at all so definitely not worth it

You'd be better off buying a secondhand Xbox to play it on if he's ok playing it in that

UpsideLeft · 08/03/2024 00:06

What a gaming PC as opposed to an Xbox ?

UpsideLeft · 08/03/2024 00:06

Why

UpsideLeft · 08/03/2024 00:10

There are loads of Xbox one on EBay which you'll need to play Roblox

Much cheaper and better than a gaming PC

UpsideLeft · 08/03/2024 00:13

Or Amazon

Their refurbished items are always excellent

Thanks all I will forget about the pc then, he doesn’t want an Xbox to play it on we have one already but he can’t use the chat feature on it to speak to his friends as Xbox (and PlayStation) don’t allow it.

Look at HP laptops and see which ones, not even necessarily specific gaming ones, have enough of what you need to play it on

Look at reviews and if they mention they use it for gaming then you're all good

Do not buy a Chromebook laptop

UpsideLeft · 09/03/2024 02:48

This is from John Lewis in your budget and has a graphics card so will be fine for gaming

My gaming DH says no to gaming PCs. He’s always said if the time comes he will teach our DDs how to build one. He stopped gaming when we met, we had a family very quickly so he didn’t have much time. DH is happy with his PS5 which he got as a birthday/Christmas/Father’s Day present for 2 years. DDs use it but mainly for Fortnite with their friends. DH is definitely enjoying having a decent gaming console atm.

we just bought 2 DDs (9 & 11yos) iPads, they have begged for years. They paid the bulk of the costs themselves. They would have been6/12 months away with their own money so we’ve topped up the rest, £40 for 1 DD & £100 for another. Our top up is their birthday presents. Although they use it for other things Roblox was the reason they desperately wanted something better than their fire tablets.

Laptops are also a no go for my DH too, saying that my DDs do play Roblox on his laptop but it’s more sophisticated than the average home or work laptop.
