Give me a racing heart?

Every time. Doesn’t matter what brand. Don’t get it with anything else. Its perplexing.

If you have homemade quiche does it give you a racing heart? What about spanish omelette?

beetr00 · 07/03/2024 13:59

@Quicheit self-fulfilling prophecy perchance?

SinnerBoy · 07/03/2024 14:00

Do you mean after eating it, or just thinking about it?

DeedlessIndeed · 07/03/2024 14:01

Sorry for being literal, but do you mean you are excited by the quiche?

Or a medical condition caused by the quiche?

PoppingTomorrow · 07/03/2024 14:01

Is your heart rate already quite fast and then it goes quicher?

idontlikealdi · 07/03/2024 14:05

Pastry. Can't eat cold pastry anymore. Thanks peri.

Quicheit · 07/03/2024 14:05

All great questions

  1. I mean literally my heart races for about an hour after
  2. I’ve never made a homemade quiche. Could give it a go. I don’t love Tortilla but never noticed a racing heart
  3. i don't think it’s self-fulfilling as it took a while for me to pin it down to quiche. I wondered why my heart was racing after lunch during lockdown and eventually realised it was because I’d taken up quiche!!
  4. I actually have a fairly slow resting heart rate of about 58
  5. Quiche does not excite me

I wonder if you're allergic to one of the ingredients?

OMG Grin

ImOddsAndEnds · 07/03/2024 14:08

Sounds like a food sensitivity.
Unless the kind you're buying is very high in salt?

PuttingDownRoots · 07/03/2024 14:09

Do scrambled eggs effect you?

DSD9472 · 07/03/2024 14:10

Does it happen with other pastry items? Heavy cream/fat items? DH can get indigestion from pastry and fatty meals, but not the racing heart. I'd guess its a preservative or colouring you are sensitive too.

Make your own and see if you have the same issue- but if you buy pre-made pastry, check what the ingredients are.

brytersky · 07/03/2024 14:14

I get it after pastry items, sweet or savoury. I'm guessing they use glucose syrup in the ingredients as that's the only thing that usually has this effect on me. That or the sheer amount of refined carbs. When my blood glucose spikes I get a racing heart.

waterlellon · 07/03/2024 14:16

Try other pastry and egg items

beetr00 · 07/03/2024 14:17

@Quicheit you have me going down a rabbit hole 😄quiche!! who knew.

Is quiche healthy?
Quiche is bad news when it comes to a healthy diet. It’s usually made with cheese and cream in the filling as well as butter in the pastry case, so it’s often high in saturated fat and calories. Ingredients like bacon will add salt and more saturated fat.

Quicheit · 07/03/2024 14:29

Pastry is fine. I love a croissant regularly and no issues. Eggs sometimes make me feel a bit nauseous but I like them and no heart racing

I am guessing a sensitivity but it’s so damn specific to quiche!!

I cannot be near the stuff. It is revolting.

I always used to feel ill after eating Welsh Rarebit. Won't eat it any more.

Outstanding 😂

rumbypumby · 07/03/2024 14:41

Lorraine, is that you?

PoochiesPinkEars · 07/03/2024 14:44

@PoppingTomorrow thanks for my first proper laugh of the day. 😁

Bumblebeeinatree · 07/03/2024 14:46

Preservatives in the quiche to increase shelf life? Read the ingredients carefully for additives, my DH can get asthma attacks from various ready prepared things usually turns out to be preservatives.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 07/03/2024 14:47

Croissants aren't pastry though.

PoochiesPinkEars · 07/03/2024 14:47

On a more serious note, I sometimes get this if I eat something high salt and high saturated fat.
This is only since being peri.
So that's my two penn'orth but in your situation I'd experiment with lots of alternative delicious high-fat-high-salt foods, or home made quiche, and see what the common factor is.
Mine is worse if I also have a glass of wine with it (goodbye chorizo tagliatelle+red 😭) ...
