Is there anything I can do here? GP related

11yo DS has had on/off stomach pains for 5 weeks. We originally called 111 and got sent to a&e for suspected appendicitis (urine sample and felt his belly) which was ruled out.

Have seen GP who has done blood tests, which she says are fine (slightly low glucose, and low ferritin but iron is fine. Also mentioned something about white blood cells, but that they have all the hardware they need?) and a stool sample, which hasn't come back yet.

He has been on laxido for 2 weeks - pain still there. There's no pattern or triggers for the pain. Comes and goes, mostly stabbing and can be either in centre, right or left.

Anyway, the GP has made an urgent referral to a paediatrician but there is a 6 month wait. Is there anything I can do, anything I can say to move things along? I know everything and everyone is busy, but he's in pain every day at some point and it's starting to affect his mental health, his school work, his social life. I don't know how to help. Not really sure what I'm asking, but if anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it.

Just wanted to say keep pushing. Call the paediatrics dept and ask for any cancellations, go back to GP and ask them to write and request an expedited appointment. If nothing comes of it and he’s still in pain then go back to a&e. Yes everyone is busy but your son shouldn’t have abdominal pain for 6 months.

Thanks for your reply. It really feels like I'm hitting a brick wall. The GP just kept saying "I'll request urgent but can't tell you when they will see you" and she can't request an ultrasound as apparently the department will reject it unless it comes from a paediatrician. I can't even find a number for paediatrics, only the appointment line who say "we're only for people who can't use the internet, we have the same appointments as you".

I am tempted to go back to a&e but it doesn't feel like an accident or an emergency, so I feel like I'm wasting their time. But like you say, he can't be in pain for this long.
