What is something you will never use/see/own because of their adverts?

Some brands or shows just have the most annoying, repetitive adverts and it just puts you off using or watching them.

For me it's Norton Antivirus software and the Apple adverts with the kid karate chopping wood or the guy with the fish. They drive me potty!

DH says Impractical Jokers. The ads were on so much that he has vowed to never watch the show.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has this?

Snag tights. As a previous poster said, morbid obesity is not something to be celebrated any more than the anorexic models of the 90’s were.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 07/03/2024 18:00

Octopus. I have ClassicFM on during the day and it feels like every ad break 'this is what real customer service sounds like' in that irritating headmistressy voice.

Lush after the promotion of a breast breast binders and for putting signs in their shops saying 'terfs not welcome' and also it's dodgy campaign for green activism that encouraged staff to 'get naked'.

https://www.iwf.org/2017/06/02/lush-insists-it-doesnt-pressure-staff-to-get-naked-and-show-bare-bottoms-for-green-activism/

Was it also Lush who forced their staff to “give away” kisses to random strangers, or was that another shitty sexist company?

Babyroobs · 07/03/2024 18:01

Bulky pee pants.

Snag tights. Using morbidly obese models is the same as using anorexic ones.

This! I also can't stand their " woke preaching"!

Anything fronted by that bearded chap with the fluorescent white teeth.

I have boycotted Doritos today. I was so sickened by the tweets sent by the influencer they had hired for their adverts. Disgusting what was said about, incest, women, rape and child sex abuse being ok.

Ceebeegee · 07/03/2024 18:15

Booking.com because of professional northerner McGuiness

SilverTay · 07/03/2024 18:20

Snag tights. No way would I buy them.

Anything advertised by that Hinch woman and her ilk!

Vicliz24 · 07/03/2024 18:26

And I will never sell my car to we buy any car.com

countrypunk · 07/03/2024 14:15

I don't buy anything from companies that champion the misogyny of trans activism. It's becoming quite a boycott list.

Laziness on my part, but would you mind sharing? I feel the same way as you

MamaGhina · 07/03/2024 18:29

Yorkie. Because apparently it’s not for girls.

That advert was made for about £20

Temu, Shein

Appalonia · 07/03/2024 18:35

I loathe most adverts these days tbh and tend to just mute them, I find them really moronic. This is one of the few ads I've ever liked ( and some Guinness ones, back in the day ).

Stunning

Dove, ever since their ‘real women in underwear’ campaign. Sorry, but no.

Yeah they did a real women one with women with different skin too - but chose very beautiful women whose skin condition made them look distinguished. There are many, many women they could have chosen who have conditions that impact them negatively.

I still buy it, as it's still OK for cheap chocolate - even though it's a pale bastardisation of what it once was (see 958,321 other threads on MN) - but I find the Cadbury ad extremely irritating, where the little girl is trying to buy her mum a treat by paying with buttons.

It would be all very well (if we ignore the obvious situation that she's far too young to have gone out to the shop on her own), but for the fact that her mum is right there waiting outside and has clearly sent her in to the shop for the chocolate with a pocket of buttons but with no actual money. She's blatantly exploiting her child for dishonest personal gain!

If you look closely, the setting is quite old fashioned. I think you're being cynical, as my take is that the little girl had said "wait a minute, Mum" and gone in by herself with her most treasured possessions. 😊

FasterthanaButteredOtter · 07/03/2024 19:33

On the Beach. If that revolting family are typical of their customers, I will avoid thanks.

Cillit Bang. Hugely annoying.

Any brand that has a woman simpering over a household product like she is about to orgasm with joy. Fuck off.

Theres a toothpaste one that used to make me grind my teeth with rage, which is probably not ideal, but I can't remember the brand.

On the other hand I absolutely love the various Irn Bru ads over the years they are so funny.

FasterthanaButteredOtter · 07/03/2024 19:42

Oh and I'm rapidly going off Toyota because of that seriously ugly as fuck hairless cat they use in the current ad. Bleurgh, it gives me the absolute creeps. 🤮

@LifesTooShortToLearnPolish
See also eBay's "you're built different" and Yorkshire Tea's "we do things proper". No fucking wonder I can't get kids to correctly identify or use adverbs.

I haven't seen either of those ads, @HereBeFuckery , but I'm incensed just reading about them!

That advert was made for about £20

It looks like it was made for 20 quid by some creepy voyeur in a dirty raincoat. Plus those silly women skipping about in a field as if they’re about 7 make me feel a bit killy.

Compash · 07/03/2024 19:58

LadyLindaT · 07/03/2024 14:22

Totally concur about the 'On the Beach' ads. I wouldn't want to be within a million miles of that family, anywhere. Are people supposed to identify with them?

I would leave a country to avoid those people... shudder... 😨
