What is something you will never use/see/own because of their adverts?

Some brands or shows just have the most annoying, repetitive adverts and it just puts you off using or watching them.

For me it's Norton Antivirus software and the Apple adverts with the kid karate chopping wood or the guy with the fish. They drive me potty!

DH says Impractical Jokers. The ads were on so much that he has vowed to never watch the show.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has this?

DH refuses to buy listerine now because of the donkey ad.

I was quite keen to watch the tv show with Domnhall Gleeson in it - Alice and Jack. But the ads have been repeated so often that it's turned me off.

ineedtogoshoppingnow · 07/03/2024 14:13

Whoever come up with the current pot noodle advert is a psychopath.. slurp slurp slurp, I hate it.

LifesTooShortToLearnPolish · 07/03/2024 14:14

Also there's a car advert that says the car is "powered by electric"

How difficult is it to find someone to write the ad who has a basic grasp of English?

Compash · 07/03/2024 14:15

Any dental advert where an otherwise totally aseptic woman is knocked off her feet by the concept of toothbrushing! With toothpaste! And seems to accomplish the task with no recourse to water or foam... when I clean my teeth, I look like I have end-stage rabies...

countrypunk · 07/03/2024 14:15

I don't buy anything from companies that champion the misogyny of trans activism. It's becoming quite a boycott list.

HoneyWogan · 07/03/2024 14:18

Full disclosure - the Pot Noodle advert makes me want one, even though I am gluten free and, in my student days, we used to call them 'Pot Shit'

There was an old gag - probably originated by The Two Ronnies, I'm guessing - based on a spoonerism of 'Pot Noodle' suggesting that it was a vegetarian version of a popular Korean snack!

LadyLindaT · 07/03/2024 14:22

Totally concur about the 'On the Beach' ads. I wouldn't want to be within a million miles of that family, anywhere. Are people supposed to identify with them?

Snag tights

Yoppie (called women 'bleeders')

I boycott all women's clothing companies who use men to advertise women's clothes especially for sports

Bleeders?? Surely not?

I was dancing around with one once singing 'Noodlie doodlie doodle for meeee!' and tripped and threw it all up the wall... the stain never came out but, as it was a student house, it didn't make much difference...

('The Young Ones' was a documentary...). 🤢

HoneyWogan · 07/03/2024 14:24

I still buy it, as it's still OK for cheap chocolate - even though it's a pale bastardisation of what it once was (see 958,321 other threads on MN) - but I find the Cadbury ad extremely irritating, where the little girl is trying to buy her mum a treat by paying with buttons.

It would be all very well (if we ignore the obvious situation that she's far too young to have gone out to the shop on her own), but for the fact that her mum is right there waiting outside and has clearly sent her in to the shop for the chocolate with a pocket of buttons but with no actual money. She's blatantly exploiting her child for dishonest personal gain!

Go Compare

crumbledog · 07/03/2024 14:32

Hello Fresh the characters in them are so unbearably smug and irritating, where do they get them from ? I have skip them as soon I know it’s that advert.

QueenBitch666 · 07/03/2024 14:36

Those bloody meerkat adverts with the irritating 'Russian' accents
Any perfume advertised on tv. No wonder some perfumes are so fucking expensive
I too don't buy anything from companies that champion the misogyny of trans activism
Domino ( wu hu 😡 ) pizza

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 07/03/2024 14:39

I do my best with the boycott list in the women's right section. Also, the brand "If you care," it's so snotty and condescending. Oatly annoys me too, glad others feel the same.

Not an advert but a marketing dept., Peugeot cars got my phone number and wouldn't stop calling even though I told them multiple times I don't drive. Put me off for life !

TheBackingSinger · 07/03/2024 14:53

Costa. After they thought it was a good idea to advertise with a young woman who had scars from cutting off healthy breasts.

Andnowshesatoddler · 07/03/2024 15:09

Oh definitely on the beach that advert makes me itch and the one c moyles has piggy backed off on radio x.

Makes fun of northerns and makes us all sound like larger lout t wats

matthancockscareer · 07/03/2024 13:51

I will Never ever ever book a holiday with On the Beach, Paddy McGuiness and that family give me the biggest ick!

That makes two of us. The sound is down the second that blasted thing comes on!

CactusMactus · 07/03/2024 16:55

Elephantsarenottheonlyfruit · 07/03/2024 16:59

Yorkie for years, since they said “not for girls” and I was a girl who quite enjoyed them!

OtherS · 07/03/2024 17:35

So many, usually for attacking women or celebrating obesity so Dove, Sure, Lush, Costa etc ... Also still don't use Money Supermarket, or Gillette, or Just Eat, or Nationwide - those bloody 'poems' 🤮. Would boycott Nike for those horrifically offensive 'man dancing about in lycra as that's obviously all silly women do in the gym' ads, but was already boycotting them - not even sure what started the boycott anymore, might've been the slave labour, or child labour, or environmental damage or simply the dreadful quality... Really judge anyone who still wears Nike tbh. I try not to watch adverts anymore as I won't have anything left to buy at this rate!

Prydddan · 07/03/2024 17:42

Yorkie bars. "Not for girls."

Bleeders?? Surely not?

Euw, that is horrendously insulting. It just makes me think of Old Man Steptoe calling Harold "You dirty little bleeder" when they were having one of their many vicious arguments.

Don't advertisers understand that you should at the very least pretend to respect and value your customers - even if you secretly don't - if you want to try to keep them?

SomersetTart · 07/03/2024 17:52

Yoppie also say 'We turn your hormonal imbalances into super powers'.

I'll give them hormonal imbalance!
