Has anyone seen Caberet (the current London production?)

DH and I are going tonight. I haven't given it very much thought in advance (the tickets were a very lovely Christmas present from in laws, am really keen to go but didn't research it in the way I would had I booked it, iyswim) but have just seen we're invited to enter an hour before curtain raises and that there's an element of immersive experience? Which all sounds very fun, but I can't quite get my head around it - I get that the theatre has been turned into the Kit Kat club, but has anyone been? Are there actually things to do / see and would you recommend getting there super early?

We don't have food and drink included, just tickets. In the stalls, looks like we're just behind the dining tables from what I can work out

Would be immensely grateful for advice if you've been!!!

No, but we're going in April, so would love your feedback! Have a fab time!

Very happy to give feedback! Whenever it's come up in conversation there's been a very positive reaction, so fingers crossed. Just wish I'd asked a few more questions!

They give you a shot of schnapps and you stand around watching the pre-show Cabaret acts, who are scattered around the atrium areas. It was fine, and a good mood-setter, but not worth getting there particularly early for IMO

AntheasAccessories · 07/03/2024 11:01

We went last year when it was still the same cast you will see. There is a whole pre-show actual cabaret both in the foyer and the actual theatre. There is a separate cast for it and it’s all part of the experience. Definitely worth going for.

They put stickers on your phones as you go in as they like to keep the secrets of the whole venue and show. Enjoy!

We saw it last year-lots of us-Dc all in 20's with gfs etc so 7 of us.

Everyone loved it. DS gf has been again.

We didn't have food either but very good seats.
They try and evoke the atmosphere as if you are in the kitkat-shot of scnapps on arrival from a little window in the corridor-and lots of stuff going on all over pre show.
I think they also like to just have everyone in situ so we were seated early ish but can't remember if it was an hour.

Have fun!!!

I’ve been twice. I found it too crowded for the first hour so would advise being more like half an hour early so when you’ve had enough you can head to your seat once the house opens.

Agree with PPs - dancers in costumes performing around you in the bar area, lots of gyrating and writhing! Good fun, not sure I’d spend a whole hour there before the show though. The show itself is fantastic

nodogz · 07/03/2024 11:13

Yeah, worth getting there in good time but not a whole hour early. It's pretty fun as there is a backstage feel to the bar and the stage. It's nice to take in the atmosphere and maybe have a drink but most people cram into their seats quite early.

Also don't worry, there's no forced participation or interaction with performers.

I really enjoyed it, best thing I've seen in ages

IncyWincyEyeroll · 07/03/2024 11:39

Ahh this is exactly what I was after - thank you so much!!!

Glad to hear it's great. I'm really looking forward to it now 😊

(Typo's REALLY niggling at me though 🤦‍♀️)

Yes - twice. It's fantastic, and it really is worth going early (you enter through the "Stage Door", to see the grotty bit of "the club"). The pre-show is well worth a watch, so don't just stay in the bar.
