Any French experts who can help me with Duolingo?

How am I meant to know if it is left or right just by looking at these words?

I'm doing French on dl as well and one irk I'm finding is all the English appears to be US English.
Eg football is soccer and 'football' as I would know it is 'football americain'. Where I'm from the second kind of football is Gaelic football lol.
I am generally enjoying it though.

It used to be possible to add comments to the lessons, and there were endless complaints about the use of "American" English, but in the end its a US app, so its their choice to use what they like. As others have said, it seems to use more Mexican Spanish, and I suspect it tends towards Canadian French. See it as a bonus - we can all learn American as well as French!
