Vans trainers- ow the pain!!!

I've never worn Vans before. They were so popular when I was at university but I was always a Converse fan.

Fast forward to age 36 and I can't wear converse any more. Too flat. But for the last few years I've been wearing converse's skate style shoes. More padded and really comfy.

My favourite pair were beyond knackered so I bought a pair of vans old skool which looked identical in style.

😭 the pain! The pain! There's no cushion on the sole. I'm walking funny and getting a pain in my hip ffs. Blisters too. Feel so old. Worn them 3 times now so I can't return them.

Can anyone recommend insoles or something that will fix this? Such a waste of money otherwise.

I have done the same thing — bought vans thinking yes everyone says they’re comfy they’ll be fine.

the stitching on the back cut into my ankles and yes the same hip pain. I bought mine off vinted so not a huge outlay but I’ll be getting rid of them.

instead I’ve gone for the these from ecco. Much more support.

I'm closer (much closer👀) to 50 and Vans are the only trainers I wear. I have many pairs, many styles but I E just discovered the Comfy Cush ones - they're incredibly comfortable and I'm on my feet a lot in work.

I find mine super comfy- maybe it depends on the shape of your feet.

TeenLifeMum · 06/03/2024 20:23

I much prefer my vans to my converse. Maybe sell them and get something less flat or try a shaped innersole

Mrsbeauxjingles · 06/03/2024 20:30

I just don't get it. It can't be the flatness because converse skate style are flat. But the sole is more cushioned I think. With the vans I feel like I might as well be walking in my bare feet. In fact worse, bare feet with wooden boards strapped to them.

They feel cheap.

@Mrsbeauxjingles I think Vans are wider so your feet might be moving in them more, causing the pain. I go half a size up in Converse for this reason as I like the wiggle room.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 06/03/2024 21:50

Try the comfycrush insoles. I like Vans but the canvas ones are really uncomfortable.

MakingItChrain · 06/03/2024 22:02

I’m live in van and converses but my plantar fasciitis cannot cope in them without insoles, insoles are a must for me, I use scholl ones

Camembertcufflinks · 06/03/2024 22:05

I can't wear Vans either, they absolutely shred my feet even when broken in. I wear DCs which are much comfier.

Any particular scholl insole?

I'm down a rabbit hole looking at insoles and don't want to waste even more money 🤦🏼‍♀️

which part of your foot hurts the most? Is what would guide me for buying them, if it’s the arch, good arch support or if it’s under the heel etc good support there etc

FussyPud · 06/03/2024 23:25

I wear the comfycush ones mentioned upthread, they make a difference.

mondaytosunday · 06/03/2024 23:48

I bought Fitflop trainers as my friend said they were amazing. Wore once and terrible. I usually buy cheap no brand trainers off Amazon but have treated myself to Sketchers - we shall see!

Wonderwoman333 · 07/03/2024 06:56

the comfycush old skool ones are really comfy, chunkier cushioned sole and arch support.

User478 · 07/03/2024 06:59

I have comfy cush ones and I've replaced the laces with elastic ones, they're much better now!

Mrsbeauxjingles · 07/03/2024 07:28

Damn it. I didn't know about the comfycush ones 😣

I love flat trainers but converse squish my toes and vans shred the backs of my feet/ankle. I genuinely don't get how people find them comfortable! I'd sell them and rebuy the converse you had.

Hadjab · 07/03/2024 09:48

This is interesting, because once I started wearing Vans, I couldn't wear Converse anymore as the were too flat. Then I discovered Adidas Forum Bolds and now I can't wear anything that doesn't have a platform sole.

Which scholl ones do you use? There’s so many!

I cannot break in Vans no matter how I try...same with Puma. They just don't seem to match my feet! DS1 on the other hand, has lived in Vans since the age of about 15!
