WE GOT THE WIN ON CHILD BENEFIT!
Chancellor tipped me off before budget, said this was due in large to MSE/my shows campaigning all based on all those of your who messaged me to say it was the key thing to put to him

So

1. From this April threshold which hasn't moved since 2013 rises from a single parent earning £50,000 to £60,000 and you lose child benefit totally at £80,000 (not £60,000)
2. Consultation on moving it to family income not individual income and hopefully that'll be in place from April 2026 (this is to stop unfairness for single income/single parent) families*

Yes he may talk fast or look smug or whatever but the man is a bit of a legend IMHO

The posters on MSE should also claim the win.

First word quoted above is 'WE'. Not 'I'. He then goes on to credit his viewers and followers. Good for him.

Martin Lewis is great, never quite understand why he is criticised or hated, whats that about?

I'm chuffed for anyone this helps. Sadly we've had nothing for our 3 children in a while and they're aging out.

Child benefit should be a universal benefit and not means tested.

I wasn’t aware he was criticised so much. He’s great but I do have to listen in small doses because I can’t keep up. He just wants to get as much info to people as possible though, he’s a good egg I think!

I think it was a Labour MP who bought it to the HoC, so he should also get some credit but yes, huge win!

Good for him/his social media following. Let's hope they can get the win for Student Finance regarding maintenance loans too.

(and - just a prediction - if they ever say they can't do it for Child Benefit cos they cant easily work out household income, they're fucking liars because that's exactly what they use to deny students higher maintenance loans....)

I don't know about student loans but trying to set up a system to reliably keep records of household income would be a huge task. I would t bet on that coming in any time soon

I think he's great.

I've made 4 or 5 PPI claims in the past, using his online tool.

I got thousands of pounds refunded and never had to pay a penny to solicitors.

He is an absolute legend, he works tirelessly to educate and empower people and has rightly become a successful campaigner too.

I don't disagree....my point was more that they are screwing with student's maintenance by pretending they can (and relying on peoples honesty which then disadvantages some students). If they suddenly decide they can't work out household income fairly for Child Benefit (which will be in the governments favour) then they need to be pulled up on student maintenance criteria pretty damn quickly....

People find him annoying because he is right and really holds his line. He has done a lot of good.
