Royal Mail- did you know its cheaper to have home collection!?!?

Yesterday, I posted a small package from the post office branch, but thought it seemed expensive. I compared the cost of their online service, where you input the package details on their system and the postman collects it from your home and brings a sticky label.
To have the same package collected from home, would have been £4 cheaper! How can that be? Surely that is a steep charge to use an actual branch? Am I the only one not aware of this?

I've used the collection service a few times, it's very convenient as the nearest post office is a 6 mile round trip. I do try to use the post office when I've got time and the weather is OK though. If we don't use them, we'll lose them.

I think it's absolutely nuts that it's cheaper to have someone collect it.....but it is!

I use this service at work, because there's always someone in the office, and it's easier than schlepping down the road to the post office (we no longer have daily mail collections because we don't post enough).
