Help - does anyone understand Gmail

I sent an email to my OH yesterday about points I want to raise in a call with somebody about a personal matter.

My OH had emailed them in our ongoing email chain a few days ago. (So prior to me emailing with the points I want to raise).

I then followed up on his email, from a few days ago asking the person for a call this week. It shows in my sent items that I replied to my OH email and my email from yesterday is not in this thread.

They have replied to my email but now my email from yesterday is showing in the thread?! Does that mean I included it in my email? I’m so confused and it makes for an awkward situation if so!!!

Following. I don’t understand gmail either.

No it's probably fine. It links all emails in that chain together but doesn't mean all has been sent. Best way to double check is go to SENT and read your email separated from the chain.

Gmail is horrible. It sticks all the emails from the same subject line in one thread, even if they are forwarded to totally different people.

Completely confusing.

All you can do is look carefully at who each individual email is from and to.

And keep an eye on your sent box and archive because sometimes new responses end up in there. Dreadful product. Have you tried Yahoo or Outlook? Much clearer and easy to use.

I hate Gmail, Outlook is so much better.

In your Gmail settings, in General, scroll down and switch off Conversation view. That should help.

I'll try this. I have to say Gmail has made me feel stupid - I'm a big previous Outlook user too. 🌹

I loathe Google. I cannot get on with their email at all. And you have to be careful you don't forward something you shouldn't as it links all the emails together !!!

Springdeclutter · 06/03/2024 22:44

Also, Gmail on phone is different display and functionality to Gmail on laptop/computer. The storage is also a nagging pain if you are using it to send documents (pdf/word) to anyone

Netaporter · 06/03/2024 22:45

You can turn off linking the threads together in settings - that way you don’t end up sending on separate conversations between you and your DH to someone you might be referring to.
