Just that really. Got to wondering earlier how a church gets its name and who decides upon it?

@mathanxiety Absolutely. I once lived in a parish which years ago had an Italian population and a Croatian population so a discussion re naming the new parish was had with two names in the mix. The Italians got the ear of the bishop last so they won.

I don't know generally, but I've recently been involved in a church plant to a church who was down to very few members. We had a discussion about potentially changing the name.
I did suggest we ought to find out the patron saint of homeless people as the building is being refurbished so we're having a nomadic existence until it's done (taking around 4-5years) but we decided to keep the name which is good because it's a distinctive one and does have a connection to the church when it was first built.
I did also say if we changed the name we wanted to make sure it was fairly distinct so we could easily get a domain name!
My other suggestion was Church of the Rugged Cross because we have a lovely homemade cross.

I did a bit of research(googiling) yesterday and I thought one of our village churches was named after a minister but it was named after a donator who helped build the church in the 1800s.
