What the hell is this noise?!

I'm sat at home in bed. Kids are asleep. DH is away for work and I'm watching true crime on YouTube. Go for a wee and the bathroom window is slightly open. It's just gone 11pm and I can hear .... I'm not sure what.... I can only describe it as cheering on of... something.

We live in a suburban area of a large town in the north west with a cricket ground and recreational park nearby with football pitches etc within about 1/4 mile. We can hear cheering and clapping etc in summer as expected with cricket and football matches going on. But, late on a Tuesday night in March I can hear multiple male voices shouting "come on!" "Go! Go! Go!" And whooping and clapping. It's coming from a reasonable distance not a nearby house. Definitely outside. Been going on for about an hour.

We have woodland and parks nearby. I just can't fathom out what it could be at this time of night that's going on! Any ideas?

We had a very similar mystery a few years ago!

It turned out to be coming from a teenage 'man cave' in a garden at least 4 roads away but the sound really carried in the night.

Goodness knows how their immediate neighbours coped.

Oh and the cheering was them apparently playing darts and drinking games 😂

Oh FFS I bet this'll be the same. Now I'm all deflated. I was all ready for Miss Marpling around the area finding out who was cheering inappropriately on a Tuesday in March at 11pm.

It's stopped now. I'm going to take my sad self off to bed and dream of being Miss Marple when the reality most likely is a load of tipsy late teenagers playing darts down the road with the garage door open 😔

Oh god, our next door neighbours have a huge garden building for their teens. The boy has his friends over to stay and it's all bad suburban white-boy rapping, lots of "fucking Tom, you wanker" and random noises.

Presumably because it’s a bit unnerving watching that and then hearing strange noises outside especially when her DH is away.

But it’s men cheering, not a strange noise. And it’s from the cricket ground. And they’re hardly going to burst into op’s house. Sorry, I just don’t get it. Sounds like it’s trying to make some kind of drama from nothing

Snooker is in Saudi atm, it finished about half an hour ago. Or more likely, dogging.

Snooker isn't really a shouting and cheering kind of a sport.

But dogging is...so I'm told.

Men cheering loudly outside on a Tuesday night at 11 p.m. is unusual, and the op is wondering what it could be, and doesn’t have anyone immediately available with whom to ponder the matter (kids asleep, dh away). Am trying to think how I can explain ‘chat’?

I don't have any personal experience of dogging, but when I watched the ch4 documentary they didn't stand round cheering people on 😂

I like the fact that op said about dh being away and watching True Crime on YouTube. I like the scene being set for my Miss Marple mystery
