I want to make a gift for a friend. It's a silly joke thing.
It's a house sign for her new holiday home in Spain. (Actually Mallorca, as it might might a difference, I think they mostly speak a dialect there).
It's for her family and I want it to say
The Smith's House.
Is it Casa De Smith? Casa del Smith?
Or something else entirely Grin

They will speak catalan there but Spanish is also spoken and probably what your friends are using so i would go with "de"

My Spanish is rusty but I don't think it needs a preposition. 'Casa Smith'.

Idontwannawaitinvain · 05/03/2024 17:05

Either Casa Smith, Casa de los Smith or Casa de Smith (not Casa del Smith!) If you want it to sound more pretentious you can put Residencia instead os Casa and if you want to translate Smith to make it more jokey it would be Casa del herrero (house of the smith as is the trade)

This is how they do it on our resort in Spain.

If you want to have the sign in Mallorquin then Ca'n Smith works - the equivalent of Chez Smith in French.

@NigelHarmansNewWife oh, that's perfect thank you. They have made a lot of friends locally and are learning the local language, so they will appreciate that.
