Thyroid function test results - can anyone help?

Hello

I had a call from my GP surgery today to book a call to discuss some recent blood tests. Appointment is in three weeks but I can see my results on the NHS app and assume it is regarding the thyroid test results.

Does anyone know what this means? I have googled but it’s very confusing - does it point to an overactive thyroid?

Yes it could mean that you have an overactive thyroid. I am sure they will do more tests to see if this is the case. If it is, it will be treated.

Thank you @NannyGythaOgg

Both your T4 and your TSH are falling within the normal ranges. Why do you think you have an overactive thyroid?

I wouldn't say your thyroid is overactive, the levels are within normal range. When mine is overactive the tsh is non existent

They're both in the normal range which is shown in the square brackets.

@RiderofRohan @Panda34

Thank you for your responses, on this particular section of the blood test results it says - Abnormal, speak to doctor.

All other test results say Satisfactory, so I assume this is the reason they’ve made an appointment for me in 3 weeks time.

When I googled the normal range came up as 12 or less for the T4 part, but I couldn’t make much sense of it.

Thank you @Chewbecca!

Very confused as to why the test results say abnormal! Hopefully the doctor will explain more in three weeks time.

Your doctor may have accidentally marked it as abnormal (most likely). Or maybe there is more context to this. But the tests you posted are normal.

The 12 will be in different units- 12.0μg/dL. Your test is in pmol/L. It's like comparing inches to centimetres.

BloodyAdultDC · 05/03/2024 11:51

They look normal to me op.

Thank you for clarifying @RiderofRohan, I appreciate you taking the time to reply.
