Birthday gift for daughter

Just that really. DD is coming up to 19 and I haven't got a clue what to buy her for her birthday!

She loves animals (doesn't like people much!) and currently volunteers one day a week at a children's attraction with a farm and zoo attached. So she already looks after meerkats, owls, otters etc etc.

We've also already done Alpaca walking, keeper for the day, and an expensive zoo experience last year for her 18th. Does anyone have any other suggestions that I just haven't thought about?! Obviously not ridiculously priced because we did that last year!

She's not into fashion or makeup, or going out and doesn't really like anything much apart from animals. She's so bloody hard to buy for!

Any ideas would be greatly welcomed!

Clothes
Does she like reading?
Sponsor an animal?
Day out shopping with lunch?
Experience day?
Animal tracking bracelet? I've seen these come up on my Facebook feed and I think they are for marine animals like turtles etc, I don't know how good they are or anyone who's got one.

rainbowstardrops · 04/03/2024 15:57

Thanks @2dogsandabudgie

I've seen those animal tracking bracelets too. She doesn't really wear jewellery a lot but I'll look into that.
Doesn't like reading 🙄
We've done experience days but wondering if there's something g along the lines of Alpaca walking that I've not thought of

Does it always have to be animal related?

No, not at all! It's just that animals are the only things she really loves. Oh and the Sidemen or whatever they're called on YouTube 🙄🤣
Any ideas welcomed!

We've been to a cat cafe before which we both really enjoyed. Just wondered if I'm missing something really

Nice waterproof boots for when she’s volunteering, or just enjoying the outdoors.

TeenDivided · 04/03/2024 16:38

Your DD and mine sound so alike. Smile

How about horse riding?

The animal tracking bracelets are OK but took ages to arrive.

A day out to Crufts?

(You don't live anywhere near Southampton do you?)

Thanks but she's got decent steel toe cap boots that we had to buy her for her animal college course. Also bought her a Boot Buddy to clean them ........ hmm 🙄

I'm glad I'm not alone!!!

She does like horse riding (well, she went to a relatives relative once who lived on a farm) but I have a horsey friend who doesn't have children and she said the expense is enormous and not to encourage it! 🤣

That's interesting about the animal bracelets, thanks.

A day out at Crufts is definitely worth looking into. Hadn't thought of that.

We're probably a couple of hours from Southampton. What do you have in mind?

Oh and she's just seen an animal charity advert on the tele. She said she'd want to adopt them all. I said you can adopt other animals and keep up to date with them and she said she'd want to adopt all of them as well!!! Hahahaha!!!

A couple of hours is probably a bit far. (DD is short on friends).

DD is also getting used of her steel capped boots from college (and her overalls) whilst doing work experience at a kennels.

We kept riding for holidays in the UK and birthday treats. DD did a 'Western riding' in the New Forest once.

TeenDivided · 04/03/2024 17:53

Crufts starts on Thursday ...

KindleGirlie · 04/03/2024 17:57

Fahlo animal tracking bracelets

Yeah, a bit too far.

Don't even get me started on the overalls - she hardly wore them! What's your DD studying at college?

Ooh a Western riding thing sounds interesting and terrifying all at once!

Don't know where you're based but there's a golden retriever experience in Somerset which I would LOVE to go to.

Somerset is a bit far unless we go on holiday that way but I'm intrigued!!!
This is kind of the thing that I'm after. Things I wouldn't know or think about, so I'll look into that!

Does anyone know of anything pig or farm related? Think I saw a pig experience somewhere but can't find it now!
Or anything similar to Alpaca walking?
Or anything to be honest!!!

thaegumathteth · 05/03/2024 15:28

I looked up a pig thing recently for my niece but it was in Kettering - is that too far? im in Scotland so no idea really.

thaegumathteth · 05/03/2024 15:33

What about this if you're near Kent ? I'm just getting jealous seeing all this stuff! An orangutan encounter! Good from an ethical viewpoint to....

2dogsandabudgie · 05/03/2024 15:43

Not sure if you're near Kent but there's Port Lympne Wild Animal Park down there which has a free safari experience with entry ticket. We went there when we holidayed in that area. Safari trek was fantastic.

2dogsandabudgie · 05/03/2024 15:45

Just seen PP's orangutan experience is Port Lympne too.

Just a thought …

I was actually looking for the sort of UK holiday where you stay and work on a farm - can’t remember what they’re called …

That looks interesting, thanks. I don't really want to spend £££ because we did that last year but I'll look into it thanks.
