Dead rat stuck in my wall

So, I had rats in my attic and in the walls of the house.

Had a rat eliminator man round to deal with them. It turns out one has died in the wall on the upstairs landing. The smell is absolutely putrid. Literally vomit inducing rancid. It is the most disgusting smell I have ever smelled and is permeating throughout the entire house.

The rat man said short of pulling down the wall (which I'm not going to do) there's really nothing to do except live with it for 2-3 weeks until the rat has completely decomposed.

I'm keeping all the windows open even though it's freezing. And have ordered some activated charcoal and air fresher.

Has anyone ever encountered this and found a way to manage the smell?!!!

No idea on the smell, we had one and it went eventually, the first indication was the strange amount of flies that appeared

Ugh…I’m sorry to say I don’t think anything will help except time. Maybe a strong smelling candle??

It happened to friends, nothing to do except wait it out unfortunately. Can you stay with friends for a few days to give yourselves a break? We took our friends in when it became unbearable.

Yes it's pretty horrible but you've got to just wait it out. You can get rat smell deodorizer things but not sure how effective they are. Will try to post a link.

You have my sympathy. I had a similar problem with a dead rat. It took about 5 weeks for the smell to go away. The smell changed as the rat decomposed - disgusting but true.
are you able to ventilate the area? Although it didn’t help me

These. Not used them myself and they're not cheap but could be worth a try if you're desperate ?
